Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 Reviews - Page 5

fantastic grip in dry and wet but aquaplaning gets poor as the tyre comes under 3-4 mm and i dont mean it gets a little worse thats obvious as it wears, it gets quite bad at aquaplaning, having said that these are cheaper than most mid range tyres such as kumho , hankook or falken ant they way out perform them , i would buy again

Ok when new but wear rate excessive on the front 11000mls and need replacing now. Wet grip never great but at 5000 miles worse. Will never again buy a goodyear tyre

An excellent high performance tyre all round, especially on the wet.

Only used the OEM tyres and a set of Dunlop DZ101 before but these new EagleF1sGSD3 are a great improvement! Absolute grip on wet and they give confidence when going through deep puddles(excellent predictable aquaplaning behavior). Definitely recommended for those who want their shoes to have good stopping power in an emergency. However cornering in dry was not that good, I carry a near-empty boot.

Abit noisy but I have my music pretty loud and noise doesn't bother me.
Wear seems alright for now.
Comfort is average but still acceptable at the moment.

Will be trying out the Goodyear Asymmetrics next as braking in wet and safety are my priorities when selecting and this review is biased towards these 2 items.

Given 74% while driving a Suzuki swift sport (195/50 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 15,000 spirited miles
They were the original tires the car came with so the batch did not do the brand much justice.

Still, they were good on the dry, really good on the wet. I would buy them again should they were a bit cheaper; the T1-Rs were a much more descent purchase.

Given 47% while driving a Subaru Impreza (225/45 R17) on mostly town for 10,000 spirited miles
Worst tyres I ever put on my 07 Subaru WRX. When they were on the back the rear end wandered around at high speed. When on the front, lack of grip cornering. Now 10000 miles old, practically useless on high speed cornering. Plenty of tread left though.
Would not recommend for performance use.

great tyre for the money good dry grip and decent in the wet but they are nowhere near as good as the Goodyear Eagle F-1 assymetric in the wet dont be fooled by the fancy thread patterm the assymetric are a much better tyre, but having said that i am quite happy with them

Given 82% while driving a Volkswagen Tiguan Sport 2.0 TDI 140hp (235/50 R18 V) on mostly motorways for 38 spirited miles
Great tyres for high speed motorway and twisty alpine autostrada and for exuberant use on country roads, in both dry and wet. These were original fitment on a VW Tiguan Sport and have taken us long distances at excessive speed. Their only failing is abysmal grip in slush and snow, which is to be expected from their diagonal no-sipe tread pattern. They are good value for money considering their high levels of grip and, taking into account the hard use to which they were put, we were very satisfaied with their life of c38k miles (down to 2mm). In order not to be confined to the inner lanes in slush and snow we will be replacing them with the more expensive Conti Cross Contact UHPs.

I've mainly used these since swapping out the original fit eight years ago. I've never failed to be impressed by dry/wet grip, but it deteriorates significantly as wear increases. Wet-weather pull-away is superb, no hydroplaning at high speed in extreme conditions, and superb grip and stability under heavy braking in all conditions. High-speed fast directional change can feel sloppy at times.
These V-groove directional tyres seem to work well on this car, better than original fit Continentals and one set of Goodyear Eagle Excellence (didn't suit my driving style, or the car). Had to swap the rears out for Goodyear F1 Asymmetrical, after sidewall damage, and they span far more on pull-away in the wet, and wore quicker.
Naturally, the downside is high wear rates, more noise, and don't even think about taking a heavy, automatic, RWD car out on these in snow or ice! Get some cheap second-hand wheels and fit with winter tyres instead.
Overall, there're fantastic performance tyres. I'd definitely use these again, but the size range has become very, very limited and they are no longer available in this size. As I didn't like the newer F1 Asymmetrical, Goodyear has lost me as a customer after nine years of loyalty.

I think production of this size has ceased, pity, have to find alternative.
Very hard to get performance tyres in this size now.

Exceptional dry weather grip on windy country roads. Good wet grip as far as I was prepared to push it. Cool tread pattern. But they have become very noisy the more they wear. At 15 to 25 mph around town its unpleasant. Passengers think its worn wheel bearings.
Have had two punctures and ended up shredding side wall both times. Now need to replace worn rear tires and am at a loss to what to replace with. Apart from Conti ExtremeContact DWS (which is expensive here in NZ) reviews seem to rate all performance tyres with similar noise.
