For 2021, the testing experts at ViBilagare have tested eight of the latest 225/45 R17 tyres, with a surprising result!
The Maxxis Premitra HP5 aced the tyre test to finish in first spot overall, ahead of the new Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 in second place and Continental PremiumContact 6 in third. This is a really impressive result for the Maxxis brand, especially when you consider price was NOT taken into account for the final results!
The only caveat worth remembering is wear was not tested in this test. In previous tests where wear results were included, the second placed Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 had a significant advantage over other tyres on test, and the Maxxis didn't score too well..

In this test, I team up with General Tire to test a HT road tire, a mild all terrain tire, an aggressive AT tire, and of course a chunky MT tire in both 265/70 R17 and LT315/70 R17 sizes.

Not only is it the first year they've used a tyre larger than 16", there's several new tyres involved in the 225/45 R17 tyre test. It's the first time we've seen the new replacement for the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta in a group test, along side some of it's new mid range stable mates, the Toyo T1 Sport and the Falken FK453, and its the first time we've seen the Continental Sport Contact 5 beat the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2. Interesting!

With fuel prices sky high, "Eco Tyres" (or ultra low rolling resistance tyres) are a hot topic. Traditionally eco tyres have been just like normal tyres only with a harder rubber compound. While this is an effective way to save fuel, the harder the tyres compound the less grip it produces meaning people were having to consider whether the risk of low grip tyres was worth the savings in fuel.

It's always nice to have a tyre test from British Magazine, and this week the Auto Car have provided us with not one, but two excellent tests.
Testing both 205/55 r16 tyres on a FWD VW Golf and 225/45 r17 tyres on a RWD Mercedes C280, Auto Car visited Uvalde test track in Texas, USA to put the chosen tyres through seven different disciplines.
On test were tyres from Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, Goodyear, Michelin and Vredestein echoing Auto Cars message from 2008 - budget tyres aren't worth the risk, especially in a wet climate like the UK.

While regular car tyres have to balance wet and dry performance, 4x4 tyres have even more to do as they have to potentially cope with high speeds and massive loads on rough terrain.

ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club e.V.), Europes largest motoring club have published their 2009 winter tyre test.
As is always the case, ADAC have been extremely thorough testing 34 different tyres across two tire sizes. All the tyres were purchased anonymously from independent retailers to avoid any "special" test samples being delivered by the manufacturers.
The winter tyres were tested on dry and wet roads, a specially created snow surface and the local ice ring to emulate icy condtions!
