2025 Car and Driver All Weather Tyre Test P5 of 5

Despite finishing last overall, the newest tyre in the test, the $220 Nokian Remedy WRG5, offered two significant advantages: the best warranty (60,000 miles with no age limit) and strong performance in both dry conditions and snow. In winter testing, it worked as hard as the top-scoring tyres to fight understeer and achieved the highest peak speed (63 mph) around the snowcross track. However, its wet performance was dismal - stopping distances were nearly 25 feet longer than the best performer, and it induced dangerous oversteer on the wet autocross and slalom. This poor wet-weather behavior overshadowed its strengths and ultimately cost it in the final rankings.

Weak: Wet Braking, Wet Handling, Wet Circle, Snow Traction, Snow Handling Winner: Pirelli Cinturato WeatherActive

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 2 tests. Updated March 27, 2026.

Across two 2025 all-weather tyre tests, the Nokian Remedy WRG5 lands as a mid-pack performer overall (average overall position 4.5), earning one "Recommended" award. The clearest recurring pattern is a strong resistance to aquaplaning combined with generally acceptable dry and snow capability, but with a notable deficiency in wet stopping power and wet grip/handling relative to class leaders.

In both tests, dry performance trends toward average-to-decent (especially handling feel), and winter performance is mixed: snow results are mostly mid-field with occasional highs in subjective snow handling, while ice performance is a weak point-particularly ice braking-suggesting the tyre is better suited to variable wet/snow conditions than to consistently icy environments. Wet braking is the standout weakness and is consistently among the worst results reported for the WRG5.

Tyre Reviews 225/65 R17 Tested by Tyre Reviews Recommended

The Nokian Remedy WRG5 is a solid all weather tyre. While it struggles a little in braking compared to the best, the other qualities make up for is, notably an impressive lead in the deeper water of the hydroplaning tests which are so important in wet winters. It also has an excellent all round performance on snow, excellent traction on smooth ice, good levels of comfort, and a low rolling resistance.
