The Petlas Explero W671 finished last of ten winter tyres and was Not Recommended in the 2022 Auto Bild Allrad SUV Winter Tyre Test in 225/45 R19. The discipline field also included a summer reference. Wet braking was last of 11, 37.6% behind the best, while wet handling was last of 11 with a 7.6% deficit. Straight and curved aquaplaning were also last of 11, 13.6% and 34.6% behind respectively. The testers criticised long wet stopping distances, limited wet-road ability and low aquaplaning reserves, making wet performance the main concern in this single comparison.
Low rolling resistance and a low price were the positive findings. Rolling resistance ranked 2nd of 11, 3.2% behind the best, but those advantages did not offset the driving weaknesses. Auto Bild Allrad described vague steering and strong understeer in both dry and wet handling; dry handling was last of 11, 4.4% behind. Snow handling was 9th of 10, 5.4% behind, so it did not establish a compensating snow-handling strength. With only one test, these results support a poor assessment in that field rather than a claim of consistency across different winters or sizes.
