Performance Analysis

Drawn from 3 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Westlake All Season Elite Z401 has consistently long braking distances across three independent tests. Auto Bild's 2026 comparison placed it last of 30 for dry braking and 29th for wet braking, with distances 14.8% and 44.2% longer than best. In the 2024 Auto Bild test it was 34th of 37 in the dry and 30th in the wet, again with substantial gaps. The 2025 Tyre Reviews SUV test found the same pattern, with dry and wet stopping distances 17.6% and 33.2% longer than best and a last-place overall finish among seven all-season tyres.

The SUV test also exposed weaknesses beyond braking. Aquaplaning resistance was last of seven both straight and on a curve, snow traction was 32.5% from best, and measured noise was highest at 73.3 dB. The testers criticised its low snow traction and very poor aquaplaning performance, and advised against it because of wet stopping distances. Low rolling resistance was the main exception: second of seven, just 0.5% from best. Comfort also earned a positive comment, with a fourth-of-seven subjective placing. Those two positives came from one test and do not offset the repeated stopping-distance weaknesses.

The Westlake All Season Elite Z401 had an excellent rolling resistance and was ok in comfort (but not noise), but in almost every other test it was firmly in last place. This test has 16 categories, so that's amazing consistency to be last in all but two of them. Dangerously long wet braking is the only headline you should really need to avoid this tyre.
