Dunlop Sport All Season vs Michelin CrossClimate 2

This head-to-head pits two very different all-season propositions: Dunlop's Sport All Season, an ultra-high-performance-leaning option, versus Michelin's CrossClimate 2, the benchmark premium touring tyre. Across seven shared tests from 2021-2024, the Michelin dominated overall results (6 test wins to 1), while the Dunlop repeatedly punched above its price in wet handling and value metrics.

Expect a split personality: the Dunlop often feels more agile and confidence-inspiring in wet handling and on circuits, but it trails notably in dry braking and winter grip. The Michelin remains the all-season reference for snow/ice performance, dry stopping and refinement, with strong aquaplaning resistance and efficiency-albeit at a higher purchase price.

Test Results

Independent comparison tyre tests are the best source of data to get tyre information from, and the good news is there have been seven tests which compare both tyres directly!

While it might look like the Michelin CrossClimate 2 is better than the Dunlop Sport All Season purely based on the higher number of test wins, tyres are very complicated objects which means where one tyre is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tyres compare across multiple tyre test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Lively, confidence-building wet handling and strong wet circle performance
  • Competitive value with lower purchase price and good fuel economy
  • Occasionally better curved aquaplaning resistance and wet braking vs CC2
  • Comfortable ride with low rolling resistance for its class
  • Consistently shorter dry braking across all tests
  • Best-in-class winter capability (snow/ice braking, traction, handling)
  • Low noise and strong straight-line aquaplaning resistance
  • Efficient rolling resistance with generally strong mileage/wear results

Dry Braking

Looking at data from seven tyre tests, the Michelin CrossClimate 2 was better during seven dry braking tests. On average the Michelin CrossClimate 2 stopped the vehicle in 10.32% less distance than the Dunlop Sport All Season.

Real World Driver Reviews

Dunlop Sport All Season Driver Reviews

Drivers report the Dunlop Sport All Season delivers strong dry and wet grip with stable, predictable handling and good comfort/low noise overall. High-mileage users praise durability and consistent performance, with some noting harder feel as they age. A minority cite longer dry braking distances and occasional high-speed noise or aquaplaning in specific situations. Snow performance is limited but generally acceptable for mild winters.

Based on 7 reviews with an average rating of 82%

Michelin CrossClimate 2 Driver Reviews

Across 129 reviews, the Michelin CrossClimate 2 is most often described as a highly confidence-inspiring all-weather tyre with standout snow/slush capability and strong dry braking/handling for its category, letting many drivers avoid seasonal tyre swaps. Comfort and cabin refinement are frequently praised, with many finding it quieter and smoother than prior summer or OEM tyres, and tread life is commonly reported as good when aligned/rotated. The main recurring drawbacks are mixed wet-road feedback (a meaningful minority report reduced wet grip or aquaplaning confidence, sometimes worsening with wear), plus reports of higher noise on certain surfaces/with age, a small fuel/EV range penalty, and premium pricing.

Best Review for the Dunlop Sport All Season
Given 73% 205/55 R16 on mostly motorways for 5,000 average miles
I needed to replace my Michelin Cross Climate because they wear horribly cupped and sounded like a siren.
I was looking for conventional straight treads and there is not much choice in them.
I found these Dunlop tires and these were also available in 94V which means the side walls are stiffer.
The winter wheels have 205/55R16 dimensions which is a bit of a balloon and a trade off in handling, but for winter I do not mind.

After fitment I was thrilled about the noise comfort, very smooth and "soft" tire. After 4000 miles the tires still feel OK-ish, but when... Continue reading this review using the link below

Car = 2014 Infiniti Q60 AWD (aka G37 Coupe / CV36 Skyline - RWD bias ATTESA AWD) Overall, pleased with the tire as I wanted a comfortable tire with long tread life and a true "All-Season" tire for the winter months as I have not yet purchased a set of dedicated summer wheels/tires yet. Coming from previous Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ which lasted around 52k of 45k mile rating with sometimes spirited driving, so have no reason to doubt Michelin's tread ware claims, at least on my vehicle. Handling in the dry, the AS3+ was better when taking curves/turns and activated the VDC/TCS less often,... Continue reading this review using the link below

Conclusion

Patterns are clear. Michelin consistently delivers shorter dry braking and class-leading winter security: multiple wins in snow braking, traction, and handling, plus better ice performance and lower noise. It also tends to roll more efficiently and resist aquaplaning better in a straight line, aligning with a safer, more relaxed touring brief.

Dunlop counters with engaging wet-track dynamics-regularly quicker in wet handling and wet circle-and a stronger value story thanks to lower price and competitive fuel use. However, its longer dry braking distances and weaker snow/ice capability are meaningful trade-offs. If you face real winter or prioritize shortest stops, pick the CrossClimate 2. If you want sharper wet handling feel and lower upfront cost for milder climates, the Sport All Season makes sense. The practical takeaway: Michelin for four-season certainty and safety margins; Dunlop for budget-savvy drivers who value wet agility over winter depth.
Key Differences
  • Dry braking: Michelin markedly shorter in every shared result (often ~10% advantage).
  • Wet handling feel: Dunlop repeatedly quicker on wet laps and wet circle; Michelin rates higher subjectively at times.
  • Aquaplaning: Michelin better in straight-line aquaplaning; Dunlop sometimes stronger in curved aquaplaning.
  • Winter: Michelin clearly superior in snow/ice braking, traction and handling; Dunlop understeers and trails in snow.
  • Noise/refinement: Michelin quieter in multiple tests; Dunlop louder on average.
  • Value/price: Dunlop notably cheaper upfront and often better cost per 1000 km when price is weighted; Michelin can offset with higher mileage in some tests.

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
