2016 Off Road Summer SUV Tyre Test
Highly recommended
Tested 3 times by independent publications, the Continental Cross Contact UHP has taken 3 test wins with an average finish of 1st.
Drawn from 3 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.
The Continental Cross Contact UHP won all three SUV and 4x4 summer comparisons in its history: first of eight in the 2010 Auto Zeitung 4x4 Tyre Test, first of nine in the 2013 Auto Bild SUV / 4X4 Tyre Test and first of six in the 2016 Off Road Summer SUV Tyre Test. Wet braking is the clearest repeated discipline strength. Auto Bild praised short wet and dry stopping distances in 2013, while Off Road highlighted short wet braking, good wet handling and low rolling resistance in 2016, calling it Highly recommended. Auto Zeitung described good results across the key tests, without identifying an individual discipline advantage.
The wins came with qualifications. Off Road criticised a tendency to understeer on dry roads and a high price, while Auto Bild noted increased running noise, average comfort and average curved aquaplaning. Its 2013 off-road ability also earned praise, but that is one assessment rather than a repeated finding. No individual discipline positions or margins accompany these verdicts, so the overall consistency is clearer than the size of any performance lead. These tests date from 2010 to 2016 and establish a strong historical record, rather than confirming its competitiveness against newer SUV tyres.
