The Michelin Alpin 7 was the decisive winner of the test, earning the top spot in the overall ranking. This tyre dominated on wet and dry surfaces, finishing first in both of these categories by achieving the best or second-best results in every single wet and dry test, from braking and handling to aquaplaning resistance. Its performance on snow, while not as dominant, was still competitive, placing it fourth in the snow category. The Michelin's superior mastery of wet and dry conditions solidified its position as the best tyre in the comparison.
3rd/13
The MICHELIN Alpin 7 distinguishes itself as the champion of low rolling resistance, indicating superior fuel or energy efficiency. This efficiency is paired with strong safety credentials, as it impresses in all weather conditions by providing short braking distances on both snow and wet surfaces. The testers note its braking performance on snow is particularly masterful, stopping significantly shorter than many rivals. Its main vulnerability was identified during the curved aquaplaning test, where it tends to lose grip and float up earlier than the best competitors when cornering in deep water.

3rd/10
The Michelin Alpin 7 provides secure and dynamic snow performance with good safety reserves in corners and short braking distances on wet roads. The tyre delivers a balanced performance on dry asphalt as well. However, testers noted sluggish and heavily understeering behavior on wet surfaces, which doesn't inspire much confidence, and it showed some aquaplaning sensitivity. On snow, while generally good, the handling requires an experienced driver due to its characteristics. The tyre can feel somewhat harsh over cross joints, affecting comfort. From experience, Michelin tyres are known for particularly good durability and longevity, which adds value despite the handling quirks on wet roads.

Hi there, I am following a lot your tests and views, congratulations for the great work. I would kindly ask your suggestion/recommendation between Crossclimate 2 and Alpin 7 of Michelin for continuous use (no change of summer/winter) in central EU climate. Dimension: 205 / 55 / R16 V Car: Skoda Octavia 1.5 TSI Thank you and best regards. G.K.

I would not use a winter tyre for year round use. The CrossClimate 3 has just been released, that would be the best option.

Given 83% while driving a Hyundai Tucson (235/50 R19) on mostly town for 3,200 easy going miles
Hello all,
DRY
The tires have very good grip on dry, especially with acceleration.
Stopping distances seems reasonable but I didn't put them on extreme braking, as my driving is not that spirited.
The handling lacks a bit of a feeling and I suspect there is more wall flex, which is a trade off - a bit more floaty but with very good comfort.
Noise seems not a problem as well, if you listen you will hear it but otherwise, especially in the city, you barely notice it.

WET
In the wet, the tires also were OK. I drove fast on a very wet highway and car was controllable.
Still it lacked a bit of a feeling what the car was doing. But keep in mind I drive a 2+ tons suv, so I suspect this might have something to do with it.
But yes, I had no problems following lines, braking or accelerating, or when pushing the car on highway bends with 140 km/h in the wet.

SNOW (slush really)
We had little snow this year in the city and didn't had chance to test these in proper snow, sorry.
However due to our city being quite dirty, I can say that on slush these tires were very good. You feel in control, even when changing lanes trough traffic.
Stopping is also OK but again, I prefer to ease off the gas before braking and generally use little brakes. But I can say, when stopping abruptly these tires were very good.

ICE
Now ice. I had 1 really scary moment, when 1 tire was on ice and I had 0% grip. Tire was just spinning, so the 4WD kicked in and I was able to move.
This is from position stopped to just trying to move past that ice patch, mind you.
This made me really concerned. But when I went out of the car and on that ice patch, I nearly fell off and I was wearing winter boots. Like for real?!
So maybe this was just really, really, really smooth ice.
So I think, maybe whenever tire you have, apart from studded, this patch would be the same.
Just drive carefully when on ice, I guess.

POTHOLES
In general the tires handle these like champions. Mind you my suspension is a bit on the firm side, I feel.
But these tires (esp compared to summer tires, which have firmer walls, in general) were very OK over potholes and uneven surfaces.
I just had 1 moment when I think the pothole (yes we had a lot of those here) was not that big but it still triggered my tire pressure warning, even if tire was not loosing pressure. When I went to the tire shop rim was OK though and tire was OK. We inflated the tire just a tiny bit and after a few kms, the warning went off.
Also side walls seems sturdy, as I brushed the tires against the sidewalk a few times when parking.

WEAR
Wear seems very low after 3200 miles / 5k kms. But its Michelin, so this is what you would expect, I guess, from this brand. And the price.
Mind you not very spirited driver myself. I like my car very much and don't want to end up in a tree. :o)
So tires are pricey but I expect to change them due to years, rather then wear.

NOTE:
Due to the nature of the marking/grooving of the tire, removing the stones from the canals of the tires is very time consuming and annoying.
This is before you conserve them for the next winter/slushy season.

Hope this helps somebody with their tire choice!

Keep up the good work Tyre reviews!

Safe travels, all! And be passionate for your tires - they keep you on the road.

Excellent premium tyre, it is almost as quiet as my summer tyre and has surprisingly good grip also on dry road. I´ve experienced black ice on highway. My car passed without issue and 5 minutes later there was huge pile up on the exact same spot! I´ve driven them also in heavy snowfall and even tired to overtake several cars on snowy road. Tire was perfectly stable, traction control light kicked just for a second when I was passing through mass of heavy wet snow between lanes. Overall I´m very happy. My Hankook tires from the past feel like crap comapred to michelin.

After 6 sets of incredible Continental winters (ts860 and ts870), I decided to go with Alpin 7 this winter... Both ts860 and ts870 look like a cheap tyre compared to, Alpin 7... First thing as I left tyre shop after installing them - maaaan these tyres are quiet, as driving Conti winters sound like you drive an old train... They are basically summer tyre quiet... 10 days after installing I went on a 5000km trip around Europe, spent a lot of time sitting at 200kmh in Germany, drove few laps on Nurburgring... After that trip I did another 7-8k km... I can only say positive things about it... tread life at this point seems way better than on Conti models... Very balanced handling for touring winter tyre... Highly recommend them and they will surely be my choice again when I go trought my current set... I am very susprised that at this point, nearly 1 year since their launch there are 0 official tests!

Initial Impressions Review
Given 77% while driving a Hyundai i30 (195/65 R15) on for 25,000 miles
Used them all over Europe, plus the Nordic region. Very good in dry and wet. Decent grip and handling in little snow and slush conditions. But in the cold winters of Sweden and Norway, where snow and ice is the norm, a nordic winter tyre is highly recommended. So after moving to Scandinavia, i had to replace them with the ContactViking 8, as the Michelin's ice and deep snow grip was non-existent. Overall, a very good tire for south-mid european winters, where rain and cold is the norm. Just avoid them if you are in a Nordic country, as the ice traction and handling is not enough.

Initial Impressions Review
Given 79% while driving a Volkswagen ID3 (215/50 R19) on for 3,100 miles
My first winter tire set on a VW ID.3.
Now it’s truly winter, so they have proven themselves not only on dry and wet roads, but also on snow and ice. Overall, this is a very reliable tire. It provides noticeably good grip on snowy and slushy roads as well. In city traffic, it allows for much more confident driving and lane changes. Ice is, of course, unpredictable, so I was cautious there too, but on snow it is clearly a reliable and stable tire.

On dry roads, it is slightly louder than summer tires, which is natural. Energy consumption is also higher by about 2–3 kWh/100 km, but I believe this was also due to the colder autumn and winter days. It is a good choice for an electric car as well, because overall it remains quiet and does not increase consumption significantly, while delivering reliable performance. I would definitely buy this tire again—if it didn’t wear out sooner than I plan to change the car.

Given 92% while driving a Mazda Mazda 2 Skyactiv G 1.5 (114hp) (185/65 R15) on a combination of roads for 7,500 spirited miles
Excellent on both dry and wet surfaces. Excellent on fresh and packed snow, even in challenging conditions. Comfortable and quiet. Wear after 12,000 km: Approximately 1.5 mm on the front, approximately 0.7 mm on the rear. Would definitely buy again.

Given 83% while driving a Volkswagen Passat B6 2.0 tdi 103kw 4motion (205/55 R16) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
Compared to my old Nokian WRD4s these are night and day comfier and grippier. Generally, it feels like a safe and balanced tire, and I very much like the comfort improvements, given that the summer set I am currently running is a Bridgestone Turanza T005, which is bad for a touring tire. Since I've mounted them, I have had no chance to test snow and ice, but I'm expecting good performances, especially when combined with the Haldex my Passat has.
Dry braking feels a little long, but the overall grip is generally good, and wet is especially good for this type of tire.

The only thing I don't like about these tires, but I'm fine with it given the positive factors, is that the sidewall is very soft.

Pricy but overall happy with the purchase.

Ok, so I had these tires for 3 months, but I did 10 000 km already. In the city they are fine. But few days ago I was in a heavy snow on a highway, almost all cars drove slowly,, but I decided to test Alpin 7. Left lane, through snow, no problem. Slight undersreer only. Excellent tyre, top marks for snow. Ride comfort is fantastic. On dry roads they are a bit softer, but for a winter tyre, it is just fine.

Given 90% while driving a Audi A4 b9 2.0 tdi (245/40 R18) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
I had only recently bought these tires. There were no reviews since they are brand new, but I had Alpin 3 and 4, plus this is Michelin, so I figured they are good. And indeed they are. Much sofer and offer more comfort than my summer Goodyear F1 Asymetric 6. Thats the first impression. They offer more comfort. Noise is the same as F1, handling is fine, as you expect. Still waiting for a below zero temperatures and snow, but for now - you get what you pay for. Excellent tyre

Given 92% while driving a Audi A3 Sportback (225/45 R17) on mostly country roads for 1,300 average miles
i got this tyre 1 month ago (91h), a bit early for a winter tyre and there was no reviews or test. my car came with nexen n fera sport su2 91y, so i can compare, and i got wintercontact ts 870 on my old car .that tyre was really good dry/snow/wet but i got 2 bubbles on sidewall with wintercontacts so i decided to try michelin this time . first impression is change in comfort . car was ok in big ondulations but in small cracks it was harsh. car felt really harsh with nexens. in alpin 7 you can easily tell the difference in soft sidewalls . (summer uhp vs winter touring obviously). i’ve done night drives in dry cold weather(2-3 celcius) in country roads. tyres are less direct but gain in comfort easily neutralizes this. dry grip is ok. in wet felt really similar to nexens . and in noise alpin 7 is louder at >130 kph, but different pitch (and actually more tolerable. ) the weather is cold and dry at the moment and i will update with snow/ ice grip. my recommendation rating is 10/10 for those looking for a user review. change in comfort and refinement shocked me too much , nexens did only 25.000 kms but i am right now considering sell nexens and get pilot sport 5/ primacy 4+ for this summer. if you drive on smooth tarmac all the time maybe it is not important for you but in my country definetly we need a bit soft sidewalls with this pot holes cracks and bumps even in spirited driving :D
