Volkswagen ID3 Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Michelin Alpin 7 given 79% (215-50-19)
Driving on for 3100 miles
My first winter tire set on a VW ID.3.
Now it’s truly winter, so they have proven themselves not only on dry and wet roads, but also on snow and ice. Overall, this is a very reliable tire. It provides noticeably good grip on snowy and slushy roads as well. In city traffic, it allows for much more confident driving and lane changes. Ice is, of course, unpredictable, so I was cautious there too, but on snow it is clearly a reliable and stable tire.

On dry roads, it is slightly louder than summer tires, which is natural. Energy consumption is also higher by about 2–3 kWh/100 km, but I believe this was also due to the colder autumn and winter days. It is a good choice for an electric car as well, because overall it remains quiet and does not increase consumption significantly, while delivering reliable performance. I would definitely buy this tire again—if it didn’t wear out sooner than I plan to change the car.

Driving on mostly country roads for 1000 average miles
I equipped this winter tyre on a VW ID3 on the stock 19'' rims. In this dimension the tyre was available with PNCS (Noise reduction foam inside the tyre). The tyre is indeed very silent at low speeds, just as much as the stock (ev-optimized) summer tyres, which is remarkable for a winter. Tyre noise starts to develop from 100 km/h. The dry handling is surprisingly an upgrade over the summer OE Goodyear efficient grip. The rear end is less prone to losing grip under acceleration. The same upgrade is also present in wet conditions. The electric consumption is on the rise compared to the summer tyre, but this could also be attributed to the colder weather. I still have to see what it's capable of on snowy roads. It is simply an excellent tyre to drive with and it pairs very well with the VW ID3.

Used on a VW ID3 EV much better than the original Bridgestone tyres but a little less efficient 5-7% range drop.

Driving on mostly town for 10000 spirited miles
The tyre loses grip on cold, wet roads. On my rear-wheel-drive car, it tends to slide in corners, so I have to drive more carefully than usual. At lower temperatures, the rubber hardens, which reduces both grip and comfort. Because of these issues, I found the tyres unsafe and decided to replace them.

On the positive side, they offer good steering response (a bit stiffer sides), are fairly quiet, and feel comfortable, but only when the temperature stays above 5 °C

Driving on mostly country roads for 9500 spirited miles
OE tyre on a VW ID3. Very unusual tyre for me. In terms of NVH, they show excellent comfort and are whisper quiet.

In terms of driving dynamics, they are suprisingly peaky on the limit of grip of the rear axle. With the RWD electric ID3, when torque is applied in a turn, a sudden oversteer happens with audible screeching. The limit of grip is hard to navigate and makes the rear axle of the car slightly unstable under spirited driving, with plenty of ESP intervention. The front axle has a better stability but with still quite low grip limit on turns, with understeer appearing progressively. The tyres can be scary on straight heavy braking at speed by they low general level of grip making the heavy electric ID3 longer to stop than I anticipated, even on perfectly dry roads.

In the wet, these imperfections are magnified, making the car unsafe to drive sportily and imposing a more relaxed style.

I would personnal opt for a more performance oriented tyre as a replacement. The balance is set too far on the side of efficency for the tyre to be suitable for my use on country roads. The safety feels compromised in the wet.

Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 average miles
These came fitted to my 2020 ID.3 pro performance. They seem fine on the road, but (as you'd expect for a summer tyre) don't deal well with traction on wet grass! I'm really curious about whether swapping them with Hankook iON Evos would be worthwhile when they wear out, and how they compare to Enso tyres for durability and efficiency!

I got a secondhand VW ID.3 with these tyres. Everything was OK before a first rainy day. No problems with driving just forward but any maneur I feel unsafe. It feels like I am very close to loose car control. This goes for turning, acceleration, changing line of a motorway.
I made a decision to swap these tyres before fall.

One of the few officially available for VW ID.3 with 19 diameter. The good thing is a noise - almost none in the salon. The bad things outperform heavily: in 30 kkm (two years) they are gone (twisty roads + Greece where half of the year asphalt is well above 70 degrees). Wet handling was really bad from the start - several times electronics saved the car (and me). Wet braking is bad. At dry asphalt (winter, +15...+25) they are completely fine while during summer (+30 and above) becomes slippery (soft rubber mixture). Try to find something else.

Very unconfortable. They transmit all road problem into cabin. I will change them in when i reach 20K
