Performance Analysis

Drawn from 2 tests. Updated August 2, 2026.

Across two all-terrain group tests, the Firestone Destination AT2 delivers consistently high overall results (average 1.5th; 1st/9 with a “Highly recommended” award in 2022, and 2nd/9 in a dedicated snow-focused follow-up test in 2023). The clearest pattern is excellent all-round capability with standout wet-road and efficiency performance, while remaining very competitive off-road and in snow overall.

Its main limitation is on-road dry braking (and to a lesser extent dry handling feel), where it ranks near the bottom despite being close on lap time. In the snow test specifically, results become more mixed-especially snow braking and traction-suggesting that while it is a “really capable” snow performer overall, it isn't consistently class-leading in the most critical stopping/traction metrics.

    • Dry braking is the poorest on-road metric relative to its top-tier wet/off-road results (mid-to-bottom pack despite 1st overall finish)
  • Dry Handling / Steering Feel (subjective) Moderate
    Details
    • 7th place dry handling in 2022/23 (69.06 s, +1.1% from best) and 6th subjective dry handling (90 points, +10% from best)
    • Article note in 2022/23: 'a little numb and had more understeer than the Conti'
  • Snow Braking & Traction Consistency Moderate
    Details
    • In the dedicated snow test (2023/24), snow braking was 4th/9 (45.5 m, +38.2% from best) and snow traction 4th/9 (+18.5% from best)
    • Snow results were stronger in 2022/23 (2nd/7 snow braking +16.4%, 2nd/7 snow traction +10.9%, 2nd/7 snow handling +0.3%), indicating variability versus the very best depending on test field/conditions

Tyre Reviews 275/65 R18 Tested by Tyre Reviews Highly Rec.

The Firestone Destination A/T2 finished just 0.03% ahead of the Continental, but with a slightly different personality. Like the Continental it was exceptional in all the wet tests, but unlike the TerrainContact AT it was also one of the best tires in the off road tests. It also had an excellent level of comfort, low noise, and the lowest rolling resistance on test which is a fantastic combination of things. The negatives of the tire, it couldn't keep up with the Conti in the dry, and its steering response wasn't the best of the group. Like the Goodyear and Continental, this is the final tire we're putting the tire reviews highly recommended stamp on, and a very good road bias all terrain tire.
