Performance Analysis
Drawn from 2 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.
The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 Energy shows useful dry braking and wear results, but its wet-grip and efficiency balance depends on the comparison. In the 2025 TUV and DEKRA test against Tesla-spec and EV rivals it placed first of four overall, with the shortest dry stop at 34.1 metres, shortest wet stop at 33.1 metres and leading projected wear result of 31,700 km. Wet braking stayed shortest when worn, although that advantage nearly disappeared. These findings concern the particular EV-oriented versions tested, not the standard versions of those rivals.
The 2026 comparison with the regular Pilot Sport 5 was unranked and showed a different trade-off. Dry braking was fractionally shorter at 34.8 metres, and rolling resistance and tread abrasion were lower, but wet braking was 8.6% longer and the wet handling rating was lower. The unusually weak relative efficiency result in 2025, last of four for rolling resistance, contrasts with the reduction against the regular model in 2026 because the opponents differ. It therefore offers a measured reduction in rolling resistance relative to the regular tyre, with some wet-grip loss, rather than an efficiency advantage over every EV rival.
