Performance Analysis

Drawn from 2 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Michelin X Ice Xi3 performed well in its relevant winter comparison, finishing fifth of 17 in the 2020 Consumer Reports North America test in 215/60 R16. Testers highlighted strong winter performance, a quiet ride and low rolling resistance. Hydroplaning resistance earned Very Good, while rolling resistance received Excellent. Both test accounts praise quiet running, with comfort also noted favourably in the separate warm-weather comparison.

The 2014 Test World result needs different interpretation: this Nordic winter tyre was entered against summer tyres in 205/55 R16 and finished last of 16 in warmer conditions. Its stopping distance was nearly 15 metres longer than the best summer tyre and 6.7 metres longer than the worst summer tyre. That does not measure its standing among winter alternatives, but it does illustrate the compromise in year-round use. The winter and summer placings therefore should not be averaged into a single like-for-like performance verdict. Its record supports winter use with good refinement and efficiency, while the warm-weather comparison cautions against treating those qualities as a substitute for suitable summer performance.

2014 Test World Summer Tyre Test

Test World 205/55 R16

The Michelin X Ice Xi3 is a full nordic winter tyre. While this tyre scores extremely well in extreme winter tests, it is no match for the summer tyres in the warmer conditions, stopping nearly 15 meters later than the best summer tyre, and 6.7 meters after the worst summer tyre. This shows northern Europe winter tyres should not be used year round, despite their noise and comfort advantages!
