The Nankang Ice Activa 2 finished ninth of 12 Nordic friction tyres in Test World's 2020 winter comparison. Its better results within that class were snow traction, second and only 1.7% behind the best, snow handling, fourth with a lap time 1% longer than the fastest, and subjective noise, first. Testers described snow and wet handling as acceptable; wet handling was sixth of 12, with a lap time 3% longer than the fastest in class. These are findings from one test, rather than an established pattern across different comparisons.
Dry-road behaviour and ice stopping were less convincing against the same studless field. Dry braking was 11th of 12, 9.3% longer than the class best, and subjective dry handling last, supporting the criticism of poor grip and imprecise steering. Ice braking was tenth, 11.8% behind, and traction ninth, 17% behind. Ice cornering was more competitive, with the sixth-fastest lap time, only 1.3% longer than the fastest and subjective handling third, so the ice weakness concerns stopping and acceleration more than every aspect of cornering. Wet braking was fifth but still 28.6% longer than the class best, while snow braking was ninth, 3.4% behind. Quiet running and useful snow traction therefore coexist with notable dry-road and ice-braking compromises within its own class.
