Performance Analysis

Drawn from 3 tests. Updated October 29, 2026.

The Nexen Winguard Ice Plus WH43 has stronger support for quietness than for consistent winter grip across three 2020 tests. It placed fifth of eight Nordic friction tyres in Vi Bilagare’s Nordic Friction Winter Tyre Test, leading snow braking at 11.3 m and ice braking at 2.54 m. Subjective noise ranked 2nd of 8, but dry braking was last and wet handling 7th of 8. Consumer Reports placed it eighth of 17 in its North America Winter Tyre Test, rating comfort, noise and snow/ice handling Excellent, but general handling Poor even against the winter segment.

Test World’s Nordic and Studded Winter Tyre Test was an unusual reversal in ice performance: tenth of 12 within the Nordic friction class, including last-in-class ice traction, 30.2% from class best. Snow braking was eighth in class, unlike Vi Bilagare’s leading result. Wet handling was last in class and wet braking 11th, 31.6% from class best, supporting the recurring wet-road concern without comparing it unfairly with other winter types. Dry braking also trailed its Nordic rivals. Rolling resistance drew criticism in both Nordic tests. No award is recorded. Its snow and ice strengths therefore need qualification by size and test, while the road-handling limitations and generally favourable noise findings are more consistent.
