2023 Studless Friction Winter Tyre Test P6 of 8

When Pirelli was unable to produce its Nordic friction tire IceZero FR in Russia, they brought over their Asian friction tire Asimmetrico instead. As the name suggests, the tire has an asymmetric pattern (with a dedicated inside/outside instead of rolling direction). It also has a somewhat stiffer carcass and harder rubber than the others, and a higher speed rating. Braking distances on snow and ice are average. In the corners, Pirelli exhibits quick steering reactions but can lose grip suddenly with a long sliding phase when the grip is lost. The best performance is on dry asphalt. Unfortunately, the braking distances on bare ground and wet grip are the worst in the group, resulting in a modest overall score.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 1 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Pirelli Ice Zero Asimmetrico finished sixth of eight in Vi Bilagare's 2023 Studless Friction Winter Tyre Test, in 225/45 R17. Dry handling was its best result, first on the subjective assessment, with testers noting quick steering reactions. Snow traction was second, 1.1% behind best, and snow braking third, just 0.7% longer than the shortest stop. External noise was also low at second of eight. Those results show useful strengths within this Nordic friction field, although snow handling was mid-field at fourth and ice results ranged from fourth to sixth.

Braking on bare roads was the main weakness. Dry braking was last at 31.46 metres, 7.6% longer than best, and wet braking also last at 43.34 metres, 15.4% longer. The good dry-handling feel therefore did not translate into short dry stopping distances. Wet handling and straight aquaplaning were both sixth of eight. Testers also warned of sudden loss of cornering grip followed by a long sliding phase, so its quick initial response came with less forgiving behaviour at the limit. This single test supports a mixed result rather than consistently strong winter performance.
