2026 AutoView Sport Tyre Test P7 of 7

The Yokohama ADVAN APEX V601 finished last in this test. The name carries weight with anyone who followed performance cars in the 2000s, but this pattern does not live up to it here. Normal driving is fine, and that is where most owners spend their time, but a sports tyre is judged on what happens when the driver asks for more, and the V601's step from grip to slide is too sudden to be comfortable with.

Weak: Dry Braking, Dry Circle Speed, Subj. Dry Handling, Wet Braking, Noise Winner: Continental MaxContact MC7

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 1 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Yokohama ADVAN APEX V601 finished seventh of seven in AutoView's 2026 Sport Tyre Test, in 225/45 R18. Its positives were limited to normal driving and efficiency: testers found clean steering response below the limit, a planted feel and the second-longest coast-down result, behind the Bridgestone. Those impressions did not carry through when more grip was needed. Dry braking was last at 38.498 metres, 12% longer than best, and wet braking also last at 28.987 metres, 13.9% longer.

Handling was another weakness, with the lowest subjective dry-handling score, 5.9 points, and sixth of seven around the dry circle. The testers described lateral support dropping away abruptly as load increased, with understeer on turn-in followed by a quick switch to oversteer during a direction change. That made its transition from grip to slide less predictable than its initial steering feel suggested. It was also the loudest tyre at 49.84 dB and fifth for comfort. This is one test, so it cannot establish a pattern across sizes, but the braking, limit behaviour and noise results were all poor against this seven-tyre field.
