Continental AllSeasonContact 2 vs Hankook Kinergy 4S2

This head-to-head pits two of the most proven premium-touring all-season tyres against each other: Continental's latest AllSeasonContact 2 and Hankook's value-forward Kinergy 4S2. Across seven shared tests from 2023-2025 in sizes spanning 205/55 R16 to 245/45 R18, both deliver true year-round usability, but they reach that goal with different emphases.

Continental repeatedly sets the benchmark for wet control and balanced dynamics, while Hankook counters with standout value, strong aquaplaning resistance, and very competitive winter aptitude in several tests. If you're weighing outright safety margins and efficiency versus price and longevity, this comparison will make the trade-offs clear.

seven wins

While it might look like the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 is better than the Hankook Kinergy 4S2 purely based on the higher number of test wins, tyres are very complicated objects which means where one tyre is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tyres compare across multiple tyre test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Class-leading wet braking and handling (e.g., −8% wet brake vs Hankook in multiple tests)
  • Very low rolling resistance (often best-in-test), aiding fuel economy
  • Balanced, confidence-inspiring dynamics across conditions
  • Quiet operation with consistently low exterior noise
  • Excellent value and lower cost-per-1,000 km
  • Strong aquaplaning resistance (straight and curved) in multiple tests
  • Competitive winter performance, especially snow braking/handling in some sizes
  • Longer wear and lower abrasion for better longevity

Dry Braking

Looking at data from six tyre tests, the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 was better during four dry braking tests. On average the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 stopped the vehicle in 1.96% less distance than the Hankook Kinergy 4S2.

Real World Driver Reviews

Continental AllSeasonContact 2 Driver Reviews

Most drivers rate the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 highly, praising its excellent wet grip and braking, quiet and comfortable ride, and balanced performance across seasons, including competent snow traction. Many high-scoring reviews also note strong longevity and good efficiency/low rolling resistance. The main drawbacks reported by a noticeable minority are a softer sidewall feel with vague/less precise steering (especially in warm, dry conditions or at higher speeds) and some mixed reports of faster front-axle wear. Overall, it's a confident, well-rounded choice for mild climates and everyday driving.

Hankook Kinergy 4S2 Driver Reviews

Most drivers rate the Hankook Kinergy 4S2 highly for everyday use, praising its strong wet grip (especially in cold rain), reassuring snow performance for an all-season, comfortable ride, and excellent value with often solid tread life. Across varied cars and climates, many report confident handling and balanced behavior in dry and wet conditions. Common drawbacks include noticeable road noise/whine at certain speeds and a softer handling feel with some understeer when pushed; several users also note that wet grip can decline once tread drops below ~4-5 mm. Overall sentiment is strongly positive with the tyre suiting mild-winter, rain-heavy climates particularly well.

Best Review for the Continental AllSeasonContact 2
Given 88% 225/40 R18 on a combination of roads for 50 spirited miles
Compared to my previous premium summer tyres, the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 is incredibly quiet and has fantastic grip. I am driving a plug-in hybrid Audi A3, and it became basically silent in fully electric mode. I always had wheelspin when I accelerated a little harder, because of the instant torque of the electric motor. What fascinates me is that this happened with both Bridgestone and Vredestein summer tyres in warm, dry weather conditions. This is no longer the case with the ASC2. The rolling resistance also feels much better, the car coasts so effortlessly. Power consumption... Continue reading this review using the link below

Conclusion

Across the test set, the AllSeasonContact 2 is the more complete performer. It consistently stops shorter and drives faster in the wet (often by meaningful margins of 3-9%), matches or edges Hankook on snow handling in most tests, and couples that with notably lower rolling resistance. Those advantages drove multiple overall wins, including Sport Auto 2024 and Auto Bild SUV 2024, and second place in Auto Bild 2025.

The Kinergy 4S2 remains a compelling alternative: it's frequently excellent in straight and curved aquaplaning, holds its own on dry roads, shows competitive snow capability in some programs, and delivers longer wear with a lower purchase price-translating to a strong cost-per-km story. Buyers prioritizing maximum wet safety, efficiency, and balanced dynamics should pick Continental; value-focused drivers who want solid all-round security, stronger aquaplaning reserves, and better mileage at a lower price will be well served by Hankook.
Key Differences
  • Wet safety edge: Continental typically stops 3-9% shorter and is faster in wet handling.
  • Aquaplaning: Hankook often leads in straight/curved aquaplaning; Continental varies by test.
  • Efficiency: Continental shows materially lower rolling resistance (up to ~16-19% in some sizes).
  • Longevity and abrasion: Hankook lasts longer and wears less (e.g., +19% mileage, lower abrasion).
  • Value: Hankook's purchase price and value scores are consistently better.
  • Dry performance: Near-parity overall; small swings either way depending on size/test.

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
