Continental SportContact 7 vs Yokohama Advan Sport V107

This head-to-head matches two flagship summer performance tyres with slightly different briefs: the Continental SportContact 7 sits in the max-performance bracket, while the Yokohama Advan Sport V107 targets the ultra-high-performance mainstream. Across three recent independent tests (EVO 235/35 R19; Auto Express 225/40 R18; ADAC 225/40 R18), the pair traded blows in braking and wet grip nuances, while diverging more clearly on efficiency and longevity.
In short, the Continental typically delivers the sharper lap-time performance and broader safety envelope in mixed conditions, alongside standout efficiency and wear. The Yokohama counters with consistently strong straight-line braking (dry and wet in two of the three tests), poised subjective manners on road, and excellent curved aquaplaning in the two UK tests. The tight overall finishes (including a 3rd vs 4th at EVO) mean context-size, climate, and priorities-matters.

While it might look like the Continental SportContact 7 is better than the Yokohama Advan Sport V107 purely based on the higher number of test wins, tyres are very complicated objects which means where one tyre is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tyres compare across multiple tyre test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Class-leading all-round safety at ADAC: shortest wet braking (28.4 m) and excellent handling; strong dry grip and feedback
  • Superior efficiency and ownership costs: lower rolling resistance (up to −15%), better fuel use (5.5 vs 5.7 l/100 km), and longer wear (+26.5%)
  • Consistent handling pace: wins in dry and wet handling at EVO; strong subjective control and stability
  • Excellent straight-line aquaplaning resistance across all shared tests
  • Strong braking focus: wins dry braking in 2/3 tests and wet braking in 2/3 (notably −5.14% at Auto Express)
  • Refined road manners: higher subjective road score at EVO and marginally quieter in UK testing
  • Confident wet balance on lap with crisp turn-in and progressive rotation (EVO subjective praise)
  • Better curved aquaplaning in the UK tests, offering security in bend-through standing water

Real World Driver Reviews

Continental SportContact 7 Driver Reviews

Drivers overwhelmingly praise the Continental SportContact 7 for outstanding grip and confidence in both wet and dry conditions, with exceptionally strong braking and traction that often surpass rivals. Handling feel and balance are widely lauded, and many note excellent wet safety and aquaplaning resistance. The main trade-offs reported are faster-than-average wear and, for some vehicles, higher noise/firm ride and slightly less immediate steering response versus certain competitors. Overall sentiment is strongly positive, especially from higher-scoring reviews.

Yokohama Advan Sport V107 Driver Reviews

Drivers report the Yokohama Advan Sport V107 delivers strong dry grip, sharp handling, and confident wet performance when warm, with several high-scoring reviews praising its sporty feel and feedback (including on EVs). However, many note high road noise on coarse surfaces and notably fast tread wear, making it less ideal for daily comfort or longevity-focused use.

Bought these based on the group test results and was not disappointed. The wet grip is at a new level! I've tracked them several times both in dry and wet and they didn't fail. I was especially impressed with how they held up during the day and the tread that was left afterwards. These tyres transformed the driving experience both on the road and track.

Own this MX5 mk4 from new. Serviced every year. Mileage at first MOT 12500. Tread 60%, tyre wall inside all 4 tyres cracking. Passed MOT but told safe to drive but keep a check on tyres. Car is used every day short trips around town. Also a few touring trips. Never had all 4 tyres have cracking on side wall before in any car.

Conclusion

Synthesizing the results, the SportContact 7 is the more rounded performer. It won two of the three shared tests (including ADAC 1/18 overall) and repeatedly led in handling (dry and wet), straight-line aquaplaning, rolling resistance, and durability. Its ADAC numbers are telling: −8.97% shorter wet braking (28.4 m vs 31.2 m), better straight aquaplaning (+4.87%), markedly lower abrasion (−33%), and a projected 26.5% longer life-plus lower fuel use (5.5 vs 5.7 l/100 km) and better value per 1000 km.
The Advan Sport V107 is no bystander: it edged Continental in both wet and dry braking in the UK tests (e.g., Auto Express wet −5.14%, dry −2.58%), scored higher for road refinement there, and posted superior curved aquaplaning in the UK-based tests, while feeling light, precise, and confidence-inspiring. The outlier was Auto Express, where Continental underperformed in the wet versus its usual form; viewed alongside ADAC and EVO, that looks size/test-surface specific rather than a pattern.
If you want the safest all-round package with notably better efficiency, wear, and lap consistency, choose the SportContact 7. If your priority is strong braking bite and quieter road manners in UK-style conditions, the Advan Sport V107 is compelling-especially in the tested 18-19 inch fitments.
Key Differences
  • Overall wins: Continental 2 vs Yokohama 1, with Continental topping ADAC 1/18 versus Yokohama 6/18
  • Braking vs handling emphasis: Yokohama often stops shorter in UK tests; Continental is quicker around the lap and more stable in mixed wet
  • Aquaplaning split: Continental leads straight-line aquaplaning in all tests; Yokohama leads curved aquaplaning in the two UK tests
  • Efficiency and running costs: Continental has notably lower rolling resistance (−12-15%), better fuel use (−3.5%), and longer life (+26.5%)
  • Durability and environmental metrics: Continental's abrasion is ~33% lower and value per 1000 km is better (−7%)
  • Noise/comfort: Yokohama tends to be quieter and more compliant on road routes; Continental can be louder on coarse surfaces

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
