Braking distances and lap times are better when lower; speeds, wear and grip figures when higher. A test's figures are its own: sizes, cars, surfaces and temperatures differ from one to the next, which is why the averages here are only ever of tests the two tyres shared. "Scored" rows are subjective driver ratings: each test uses its own scale, so only the wins are counted.

All 3 TrueContact Tour 54 reviewsGreat choice for a long wearing, efficient, daily driver.
Really seems to do almost everything well and feels like a trusty companion to our little Civic.
Wearing well but looks unlikely to last as long as a Defender 2. Better rolling resistance though.
The only issue with it is the cost. Continental seems to bumped the price since I bought mine. I would buy again if on sale.
Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2
- 85%from 9 reviews
- 78%would buy again
- 74,600 milesdriven by reviewers
Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2 is widely praised for strong all-weather traction, with drivers consistently highlighting confident wet grip, solid dry handling, and generally capable snow performance. Ride comfort and steering response are frequently described as improved versus prior tyres, and several reviewers note good braking feel. The main repeated downside is reduced fuel economy/range, which multiple drivers report as a noticeable MPG hit compared with prior all-season or eco-focused tyres.
- Excellent wet-road grip and confidence in rain
- Strong dry handling/steering response and responsive feel
- Good all-weather capability including snow (especially light-to-moderate conditions)
- Comfortable ride and good braking performance
- Noticeable reduction in fuel economy/EV range compared with previous tyres

Reading the results
Written from the test results and owner reviews above. It is analysis, not a measurement: where it and the tables disagree, the tables are right.
The Continental TrueContact Tour 54 and Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2 sit in a similar premium touring space, but they approach year-round performance from slightly different angles. The Continental is a traditional all-season touring tyre focused on balance, refinement, braking stability, and everyday usability, while the Goodyear is positioned as an all-weather option with a broader performance brief that places more emphasis on severe-condition confidence.
Across two shared Tire Rack tests in the same 215/55R17 size, the contrast is clear. The Continental shows particular strength in dry braking, noise comfort, and predictable handling, while the Goodyear repeatedly rises to the top overall thanks to its stronger subjective feel, wet handling consistency, comfort, and winter security. This comparison is less about whether the Continental is a weak tyre-it is not-and more about how much extra all-weather breadth the Goodyear brings.
Conclusion
Across the shared Tire Rack tests, the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2 is the stronger overall performer. It won both overall comparisons, finishing 1st out of 7 and 1st out of 11, while the Continental TrueContact Tour 54 placed 3rd and 7th respectively. The Goodyear's advantage is not built on one standout metric alone, but on its consistently high scores in wet handling, subjective dry and wet feel, comfort, ice braking, and broad all-weather confidence.
The Continental TrueContact Tour 54 remains a very credible touring all-season tyre. It repeatedly delivered shorter dry braking distances, tied the Goodyear in wet braking in both tests, and was praised for sharp steering, low noise, and composed road manners. Its winter performance is more mixed: it beat the Goodyear in snow braking in one test by a significant 13.54%, but trailed badly in the other by 16.36%, suggesting conditions or test methodology may influence the result more than with the Goodyear.
For buyers wanting a quiet, predictable, efficient-feeling premium touring tyre, the Continental is still easy to recommend. But if the priority is the most complete year-round package-especially one that feels confident in wet roads, emergency maneuvers, snow, and ice-the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2 is the benchmark here. The practical takeaway is simple: the Continental is dependable and refined, but the Goodyear is more complete.

Where this data comes from
Finishing positions and measurements are transcribed from each published test. A test only counts here when both tyres ran in it, so every figure was recorded on the same car, size and day as the one it is compared to.
About the TR Score
The Tyre Reviews Score rates each tyre out of 10 from every independent test result and vetted owner review we hold, so two tyres can be compared even before a test has run them together.
Who does the testing
Every test published as a Tyre Reviews test is run by Jonathan Benson, who has been testing tyres independently since 2007.
