Performance Analysis
Drawn from 2 tests. Updated October 29, 2026.
The Tomket Sport Series 1 performed well among budget rivals, but its wider market result and wet-stopping gaps need to frame that success. In the 2023 Tyre Reviews comparison of eight cheap tyres and one premium tyre, in 205/55 R16, it finished second of nine. Dry braking was second at 37.83 m, 7.3% from best, and dry handling third, 2% behind. It was also second for wet braking and handling, yet the wet stop remained 22.5% longer than the premium benchmark, so the high placing did not mean equivalent wet performance.
The 2024 Auto Bild Summer Tyre Market Overview, in the same size, placed it 34th of 55 overall. Wet braking was 40th of 55, 33.3 m and 29.1% from best, while dry braking was 29th, 9% behind. That lower placing in a broader field qualifies the budget-test success rather than establishing a comparable result against all rivals. The 2023 test praised pleasant driving behaviour and the lowest rolling resistance, while aquaplaning and noise were only midfield. No award is recorded. Efficiency and dry-road performance within the budget group are better supported than leading wet stopping across the market.

Are Budget Tyres Finally Good Enough? 8 Cheap Tyres VS 1 Premium Tyre
While it's difficult to recommend any of the cheap tyres due to the wet braking performance, the Tomket Sport is certain the tyre to look at if you need to save money on tyres. It was the closest to the premium tyre in wet braking and wet handling, performed well in the dry and was a pleasant tyre to drive. It also had the lowest rolling resistance of the group.
