Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 vs Toyo Celsius AS2

This head-to-head pits two all-season touring heavyweights with very different philosophies: Pirelli's Cinturato All Season SF3 aims for class-leading grip and balance in all weathers, while Toyo's Celsius AS2 prioritizes longevity and low running costs. Across five shared tests in 17-18-inch sizes, the SF3 repeatedly topped the leaderboards, including multiple overall wins, whereas the AS2 consistently sat mid-pack but excelled in wear and economy.

Expect decisive gaps in safety-critical wet and dry stopping, aquaplaning resistance, and dynamic handling in Pirelli's favor, contrasted by Toyo's standout tread life, lower abrasion, and better value per 1,000 km. In winter, Pirelli generally edges Toyo for traction and control, though Toyo posts the occasional snow-braking highlight.

While it might look like the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 is better than the Toyo Celsius AS2 purely based on the higher number of test wins, tyres are very complicated objects which means where one tyre is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tyres compare across multiple tyre test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Class-leading wet and dry braking (5-9% shorter in multiple tests)
  • Excellent aquaplaning resistance and wet handling security
  • Consistently superior snow traction and control
  • Dynamic, precise handling with low noise
  • Outstanding wear and low abrasion (circa +45-50% mileage)
  • Stronger value per 1,000 km and lower running costs
  • Competitive rolling resistance/fuel use in several tests
  • Stable, predictable dry-road behavior

Dry Braking

Looking at data from five tyre tests, the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 was better during five dry braking tests. On average the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 stopped the vehicle in 6.6% less distance than the Toyo Celsius AS2.

Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 Driver Reviews

Across 42 reviews, the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 is praised for excellent wet braking, strong dry handling that feels close to a summer tyre, and surprisingly capable snow traction for an all-season. Many drivers highlight low noise, good ride comfort, high-speed stability, and promising wear for year-round use. A minority reported quality-control issues (out-of-round/vibrations), and several enthusiasts noted softer sidewalls with reduced steering precision in warmer temperatures. Overall sentiment is strongly positive, with minor caveats around manufacturing consistency and warm-weather steering feel.

Best Review for the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3
Given 80% 255/35 R19 on a combination of roads for 3,000 spirited miles
Genuinely seriously impressive tyre. I decided to use these as a winter tyre as I live in Scotland.

In dry conditions manages to have acceptable levels of grip in a straight line, slight wheel spin sometimes but cannot complain since the M2 is RWD 365bhp.

Very strong tyre in the dry and super progressive, really lets you know when it does begin to slip when doing spirited driving. A big strong point as these tyres still allow the vehicle to be driven in a sporting manner.

In the wet they are okay for wet straight line grip, it spins up pretty... Continue reading this review using the link below

Conclusion

The Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 is the clear performance leader. It delivers shorter braking on dry and wet roads (often by 5-9%), stronger aquaplaning margins, and more composed handling in every test. Snow performance is broadly better too, with stronger traction and higher average snow-handling speeds. If your priority is safety, confidence in heavy rain, and a more engaging drive, the SF3 justifies its premium.

The Toyo Celsius AS2 counters with outstanding longevity (circa 45-50% more mileage in testing), lower abrasion, slightly lower rolling resistance in some tests, and a significantly better cost-per-1,000 km. If you drive high annual mileages, value predictable, no-drama manners, and want to minimize total ownership costs, the AS2 is compelling. Bottom line: choose Pirelli for best-in-class all-weather safety and control; choose Toyo for the long-haul economy play.
Key Differences
  • Safety margin: Pirelli stops shorter on dry and wet (e.g., wet braking 46.3 m vs 51.0 m, ~9% advantage).
  • Aquaplaning: Pirelli holds higher straight-line float speeds and curved grip (often +6-19%).
  • Snow capability: Pirelli generally leads in traction/handling; Toyo occasionally matches or nicks snow braking.
  • Handling feel: Pirelli is more direct and sporty; Toyo is steady but less agile.
  • Longevity: Toyo delivers ~45-50% more mileage with lower abrasion.
  • Cost of ownership: Toyo offers better value per 1,000 km and often lower rolling resistance; Pirelli is pricier with higher wear.

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
