Linglong Sport Master Winter vs Pirelli Cinturato Winter 2

The Linglong Sport Master Winter and Pirelli Cinturato Winter 2 sit in different parts of the winter tyre market: the Linglong is a budget-oriented touring winter tyre, while the Pirelli is a premium-touring option aimed at drivers who expect stronger refinement and safety margins. With three shared 2025 tests in 225/40 R18 and 215/55 R17 sizes, this comparison gives a useful picture of how much performance the premium tyre actually buys.

While it might look like the Pirelli Cinturato Winter 2 is better than the Linglong Sport Master Winter purely based on the higher number of test wins, tyres are very complicated objects which means where one tyre is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tyres compare across multiple tyre test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Very strong price-value proposition, with a substantially lower cost per 1,000 km than the Pirelli in Autobild testing
  • Competitive dry handling pace, beating the Pirelli in objective dry handling in both full tests
  • Respectable objective dry braking in AMS, stopping 1.0 m shorter than the Pirelli
  • Some useful aquaplaning protection and basic all-round competence for a budget winter tyre
  • Clearly superior overall test record, winning all three shared comparisons
  • Stronger and more confidence-inspiring wet handling, wet cornering grip and aquaplaning resistance
  • Generally better subjective control, with higher scores for dry, wet and snow handling in AMS
  • Better efficiency and durability indicators, including lower rolling resistance in both full tests and higher projected wear in Autobild

Best Review for the Linglong Sport Master Winter
Given 80% 255/40 R19 on a combination of roads for 1,500 average miles
First impressions of the tyre are very satisfactory. They perform well on dry and wet roads. I haven't had a chance to test them on snow and ice yet. Comfort is good, but as expected, the tyres are noisy and the car consumes more fuel with winter tyres than with summer tyres.

At the time of purchase, the tyres were 3x cheaper than mid brands and even 5x cheaper than premium brands. That's why I decided to buy them and check whether it is necessary to buy expensive tyres for normal driving conditions and usual driving style. My conclusion is that Linglong sport master winter... Best Review for the Pirelli Cinturato Winter 2
Given 86% 225/40 R18 on a combination of roads for 4,000 average miles
I bought this tyre last year after suggestions from my tyre dealer. I was looking for a good tyre for cold and rainy winters with some occasional trip to the mountains. These tyres were highly satisfactory in terms of dry and wet performance, plus they felt great in terms of subjective road feedback and handling. Car seems attached to the ground in all situations. Downsides are higher noise and fuel consumption, but I say this with respect to my summer tyres, which may not be a fair comparison. I only tried them on snow once and they were fine.

Conclusion

Across the shared tests, the Pirelli Cinturato Winter 2 is the stronger and more complete tyre, winning all three overall comparisons: 10th vs 19th in the Autobild full test, 9th vs 16th in the 52-tyre braking test, and 7th vs 8th in the AMS test. Its advantage is most convincing in wet conditions, where it repeatedly delivers better handling, lateral grip and aquaplaning resistance. In the Autobild test, for example, it was 4.2 km/h faster in wet handling and resisted straight aquaplaning at 75.0 km/h versus 71.6 km/h for the Linglong.
Key Differences
  • Pirelli is consistently stronger overall, beating the Linglong in all three shared test rankings, including a large 10th vs 19th gap in the Autobild 225/40 R18 test.
  • Wet-weather performance is the clearest separator: Pirelli wins most wet handling, wet circle and aquaplaning metrics, including up to 6.25% better straight aquaplaning resistance and 11.2% better curved aquaplaning in the AMS test.
  • Braking differences are mixed but lean toward Pirelli in the wet: it stopped 1.2 m shorter in the 52-tyre wet braking test and 1.9 m shorter in Autobild, though Linglong narrowly won AMS wet braking by 0.7 m.
  • Dry performance is closer than the overall results suggest; Linglong matched or slightly beat Pirelli in objective dry handling and won AMS dry braking by 1.0 m, but Pirelli scored better subjectively for dry control.
  • Snow performance is not a decisive strength for either tyre. Snow braking was identical in two tests or only marginally in Pirelli's favour, while both received criticism for limited snow reserves compared with stronger winter tyres.
  • Linglong's main advantage is price-value: in Autobild it achieved a much lower cost per 1,000 km, while Pirelli countered with better wear, lower rolling resistance and a more refined comfort score.

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
