BFGoodrich Trail Terrain TA vs Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain Adventure

This head-to-head pits two popular mild all-terrain, all-season SUV/4x4 options against each other: BFGoodrich Trail Terrain T/A and Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure. Both target mixed use, but their test profiles diverge sharply between on-road grip and winter/off-road capability.
Across two shared tests, the BFG dominated snow and impressed off-road while keeping noise and rolling resistance low. The Goodyear, despite not being snow-rated, excelled in wet and dry grip and subjective road feel, but gave up performance in snow and some aquaplaning metrics. If you split time between highway and trails-or drive in real winter-these differences matter.

Had the TrailTerrain fitted for a few months now and all I can say is wow. Excellent comfort, no noise compared to my normal tires, and while I've not tried them in ice yet in the snow they felt better than my all seasons. Highly recommended.

Conclusion

The BFGoodrich Trail Terrain T/A is the clear snow and off-road specialist: best-in-test snow results (braking 39.08 m vs 49.97 m; traction 4.57 s vs 6.93 s) and quicker on gravel/dirt, with very low rolling resistance for better fuel economy and low cabin noise. Its trade-off is weaker wet/dry road grip and longer braking than the Goodyear.
The Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure is the road leader: shorter dry and wet stops, faster lap times, stronger subjective control, and low noise-an easy daily driver that remains competent off-pavement. Its weaknesses are winter performance (not snow-rated) and average aquaplaning resistance. Choose BFG for consistent winter and trail confidence; choose Goodyear for year-round road manners with light-to-moderate trail use. The practical takeaway: prioritize where you need grip most-snow/off-road (BFG) versus wet/dry tarmac (Goodyear).
Key Differences
  • Snow: BFG leads decisively (e.g., braking 39.08 m vs 49.97 m; traction 4.57 s vs 6.93 s)
  • Wet braking/handling: Goodyear clearly quicker (e.g., 68.5 m vs 59.6 m wet braking)
  • Dry braking/handling: Goodyear stops shorter and laps faster
  • Off-road gravel/dirt: BFG marginally faster with higher subjective control
  • Aquaplaning: Mixed-BFG better straight-line; Goodyear better curved
  • Efficiency: BFG lower rolling resistance (8.86 vs 9.49 kg/t)

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
