Bridgestone Turanza T005 vs Michelin Primacy 4 Plus

Bridgestone's Turanza T005 and Michelin's Primacy 4 Plus are two of the most established premium-touring summer tyres for passenger cars, often appearing at the sharp end of comparison tests. Across four shared tests in 205/55 R16 and 235/55 R18, both consistently scored highly, with overall wins split 2-2. This is a genuine clash of strengths rather than a runaway winner.

The pattern is clear: Bridgestone prioritises efficiency and crisp dry-road performance, while Michelin leans into wet-safety confidence, comfort, and longevity. Expect the T005 to deliver standout rolling resistance and price value, and the Primacy 4 Plus to impress with short wet stops, aquaplaning security, lower noise, and exceptional wear.

The Bridgestone Turanza T005 and Michelin Primacy 4 Plus have an equal number of test wins. However, tyres are very complicated objects which means where one tyre is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tyres compare across multiple tyre test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Exceptionally low rolling resistance (≈16-18% lower than Michelin in tests), aiding fuel/EV range
  • Strong dry braking and handling; multiple test wins in dry metrics
  • Competitive pricing and lower tyre weight improving efficiency
  • Solid overall balance with stable, precise steering feel
  • Excellent wet braking (5-7% shorter) and confident wet handling
  • High aquaplaning resistance (straight and curved) boosting rain safety
  • Low external noise and high comfort levels
  • Outstanding wear/longevity and strong lifetime value

Real World Driver Reviews

Bridgestone Turanza T005 Driver Reviews

Drivers describe the Bridgestone Turanza T005 as a safe, predictable touring tyre with strong wet-weather braking/grip and generally solid dry performance for everyday use. Many also report good fuel economy/low rolling resistance and acceptable comfort, especially versus harsher run-flats or budget tyres. However, a sizeable share of users complain about faster-than-expected tread wear (sometimes uneven/shoulder wear), along with noticeable road noise and a soft sidewall/remote steering feel that makes it less satisfying for sporty driving. Some owners also note performance can drop off as tread gets low and in colder conditions.

Michelin Primacy 4 Plus Driver Reviews

Most drivers rate the Michelin Primacy 4 Plus highly for quiet, comfortable touring manners with strong wet and dry grip and confident braking, often noting improved stability versus previous tyres. High-scoring reviews frequently praise low noise, comfort, and good wear. A minority report issues: noticeable road noise on rough surfaces, weaker steering precision versus sport tyres, and occasional wet/cold grip criticism. Overall, the Primacy 4 Plus is a well-liked premium touring tyre with comfort and wet safety as standouts.

Best Review for the Michelin Primacy 4 Plus
Given 97% 235/45 R17 on a combination of roads for 1,000 average miles
Coming from the Civics original tyres Primacy 3 that’s lasted 25Kmls or just over 4 years, I don’t do a lot of miles daily but those Primacy 3 tyres served me well with just the road noise being a little loud at times I liked the dry, wet, handling and comfort of these Michelin’s.

So with not a lot of info on the new Primacy 4Plus and needing 4tyres I decided to go with these anyway as only £1.oo each dearer than the primacy 4 when I purchased, in for a penny in for a pound, these are the XL reinforced version I went for as they are a whole 1DB quieter than the non XL... Conclusion

If you drive primarily in mixed or wet climates and value a quiet, comfortable, safety-first ride, the Michelin Primacy 4 Plus is the safer bet. It repeatedly tops wet braking, shows stronger aquaplaning resistance, runs quieter, and posts class-leading wear and overall value over the life of the tyre. Its on-limit feel is a touch less sharp in the dry, but its all-round balance is excellent.

For drivers prioritising fuel economy, EV/PHEV efficiency, and confident dry-road response at a keener purchase price, the Bridgestone Turanza T005 stands out. It consistently delivers class-best rolling resistance, lighter construction, strong dry braking and handling, and usually costs less up front. The trade-off is longer wet braking and higher noise versus Michelin. Bottom line: choose Michelin for wet safety and longevity, Bridgestone for efficiency and dry precision.
Key Differences
  • Wet braking: Michelin consistently shorter (e.g., 32.9 m vs 34.9 m; 54.6 m vs 58.9 m).
  • Aquaplaning: Michelin faster in straight and curved aquaplaning across tests.
  • Rolling resistance: Bridgestone markedly lower (≈16-18%), aiding fuel economy/range.
  • Dry performance: Bridgestone edges dry braking/handling times in multiple tests.
  • Noise/comfort: Michelin quieter by ~2 dB and rated higher for comfort.
  • Wear/value over life: Michelin shows ~50% higher predicted mileage and lower abrasion.

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
