All 10 Hakkapeliitta 10 reviewsBought these for northeast winter and 2025/26 was a bear (2023 CX-5). I travel over High Point mountain NJ up and down and Wurtsboro mountain NY up in morn down at end of day daily over 40 miles one way (look them up, not fun). NJ does a great job clearing the roads NY O boy not so much. These were bullet proof unplowed NY roads no problem up the mountains and down I drank my coffee calmly. Held the track on one lane each way country road unplowed while crazy trailer driver flying in from the other way (had me checking my life ins. in my head) but no problem the Hakka's and CX-5 just did their thing despite his stupidity. Never a slip never a slit slide never a wheel spin. My buddies and I refer to them as the beasts, loud in the dry yea couples miles less MPH (2) yup , who cares!
Bought a set of sharp alloy rims for them to boot no tire changes, bad for your tires.My one friend going to take them for 400 USD (a gift after one season) and I am going for the Hakka 01 with new retractable stud tech, we shall see........yes I am a rubber head I have tire problem!

Reading the results

These two are built to different rules. The Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 is a studded tyre and the Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 3 is a Nordic friction tyre, so check what is legal where you drive before comparing anything else. Studs are banned or date-restricted across much of Europe.
Four shared tests, one win each and two dead heats: both 2nd of 20 at Teknikens Värld in 2025 and both 2nd of 17 in its 2024 test. The Nokian won at Tekniikan Maailma, 1st of 14 against 3rd; the Goodyear won our own 2025/26 snow test, 2nd of 7 and highly recommended against the Nokian's 6th.
Ice is the Nokian's territory and the margins are enormous. It stopped shorter on ice in both measurements, 33.9m against 50.2m at Tekniikan Maailma, 32.5 percent, and 6.1m against 7.29m in our test, and it was quicker away in both ice traction runs, 4.8s against 7.2s, 33.3 percent.
Conclusion
The legal question comes first: the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 is studded and the Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 3 is a Nordic friction tyre, so where studs are banned or date-restricted only the Goodyear can be run for the whole season.
Where studs are allowed and ice is the enemy, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 is in another class. It stopped shorter on ice in both measurements, 33.9m against 50.2m at Tekniikan Maailma, a 32.5 percent difference, and 6.1m against 7.29m in our own 2025/26 test, and it accelerated harder on ice in both traction runs, 4.8s against 7.2s and 4.49s against 6.5s, both around a third quicker. It also pulled harder in snow traction, 2.79s against 3.08s, and was faster through the snow slalom, and both panels that judged subjective ice handling preferred it, 20 points against 14 at Teknikens Värld. It won Tekniikan Maailma's test outright, 1st of 14 with the Goodyear 3rd.
The Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 3 is the better tyre everywhere else. It took our own 2025/26 snow test, 2nd of 7 and highly recommended, with the Nokian 6th, and it won both snow braking comparisons, the snow handling comparison, the only dry braking and wet handling comparisons and the only straight aquaplaning measurement, 64.6 against 57.6 km/h. Teknikens Värld's judges rated it far more comfortable, 9 points against 5, better for subjective wet handling, 6 points against 5, and quieter at Tekniikan Maailma, 9 points against 7, and it used less fuel, 5.726 against 5.946 l/100km.
The odd result worth flagging: on the objective ice handling lap in our test the Goodyear was 7.2 percent quicker, 54.53s against 58.77s, even though the Nokian dominates every straight-line ice figure. Studs buy braking and traction on ice; they do not automatically buy lap time. If your winter is glare ice and studs are legal, the Nokian. For everything else, including snow braking, the Goodyear.
