StrengthsThe Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 was the most complete tyre in this test and the one that came closest to feeling like a summer tyre on a 300hp hot hatch. It set the shortest dry stopping distance of the nine and it was untouchable in standing water, resisting straight-line aquaplaning by a clear margin and generating the highest lateral grip of any tyre in the curved aquaplaning test. On both the dry and the wet handling tracks it was one of only two tyres the testers rated in the top bracket, with precise steering and grip that ran out gradually rather than all at once. It also held its own in the snow tests, finishing in the leading group for both handling and traction. ConsiderationsWet braking is the one place the Cinturato All Season SF3 sits mid-field rather than at the front, giving ground to tyres it beats almost everywhere else. Snow braking is similarly mid-pack, and rolling resistance is only average for this group, so it is not the choice if running costs are the priority. StrengthsThe Goodyear Vector All Season 4 was the best steering tyre here, topping both the dry and the wet handling assessments and giving the GTI a genuine summer tyre flow through quick direction changes. It was also the most efficient of the standard all season tyres, with the lowest rolling resistance of the eight, and it backed that up with near-best snow traction and joint-best snow handling. Wet braking is strong too, and it does all of this while ranking among the lightest tyres in the test. ConsiderationsStraight-line aquaplaning is the Vector All Season 4's clear weak point, floating earlier than most of the field, which is the one place on this car where its safety margin is smaller than its rivals'. Dry braking is respectable rather than class-leading, and that is ultimately what kept it off the top step. Score contributionCategory score × of overall score Dry95.92 × 27% = 25.9 Wet96.4 × 37% = 35.67 Snow98.45 × 26% = 25.6 Comfort95.7 × 5% = 4.79 Rolling Resistance99.48 × 5% = 4.97

StrengthsThe Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport recorded the strongest snow traction in this test, pulling harder on packed snow than any of the standard all season tyres, and the lowest rolling resistance of the nine. It also braked well on both dry and wet asphalt, finishing near the front in each, and it sat in the upper half of the wet handling order. As a demonstration that an all season tyre can be built for a fast car without giving up winter ability, it works. ConsiderationsRefinement is the price. The CrossClimate 3 Sport was the noisiest tyre in the cabin and near the bottom for ride comfort, its stiffer sidewall and sportier construction making themselves felt over joints and broken surfaces. It was also one of the weakest tyres under braking on snow, which is a strange counterpoint to its traction result. Score contributionCategory score × of overall score Dry95.94 × 27% = 25.9 Wet95.75 × 37% = 35.43 Snow96.18 × 26% = 25.01 Comfort88.96 × 5% = 4.45 Rolling Resistance100 × 5% = 5

StrengthsThe Michelin CrossClimate 3 is the winter and comfort specialist of this group. It stopped shortest of all nine on snow, shared the best snow handling rating and was among the leaders for snow traction. It is also the most comfortable tyre in the test over bumps and expansion joints, one of the quietest, and its rolling resistance is in the top three, so it is cheap to run as well as easy to live with. ConsiderationsOn warm asphalt the CrossClimate 3 gives ground. It was joint-last on the dry handling track, short of the turn-in bite of the Pirelli and Goodyear, and it recorded the longest wet stopping distance of the nine. Dry braking is only mid-field. On a car with this much power the wet safety margin is narrower than the price suggests. Score contributionCategory score × of overall score Dry92.47 × 27% = 24.97 Wet92.84 × 37% = 34.35 Snow99.21 × 26% = 25.79 Comfort98.15 × 5% = 4.91 Rolling Resistance96.38 × 5% = 4.82

StrengthsThe Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 is the best braking tyre here after the Pirelli, stopping second shortest on dry asphalt and second shortest on snow. It was also second only to the Pirelli for lateral grip in standing water, and it holds a solid mid-field position on the dry handling track, so the grip it generates is real rather than a one-test result. ConsiderationsThe Turanza All Season 6 pays for that grip. It has the highest rolling resistance of the nine by a clear margin, making it the most expensive tyre here to run, and it finished last for ride comfort and near the bottom for cabin noise. It was also joint-last on the snow handling course, where the testers found it running wide at the front. StrengthsThe Hankook Kinergy 4S2 is the oldest design in this test and it still held its own. It was third on the dry handling track, ahead of several newer and more expensive tyres, and it recorded the third shortest wet stopping distance. It was third for lateral grip in standing water too, and its tread is among the deepest here. ConsiderationsEfficiency is where the Kinergy 4S2 shows its age, with the second highest rolling resistance of the nine. It was also near the bottom for both cabin noise and ride comfort, and it sits in the lower half of the field for snow handling and snow traction. StrengthsThe Nokian Seasonproof 2 recorded the shortest wet stopping distance in this test and backed it up with the second-best straight-line aquaplaning resistance, so its wet weather safety margin in a straight line is the best of the nine. It also has the deepest tread here, which should help it hold that performance as it wears, and it was rated in the upper half for wet handling. ConsiderationsThe Seasonproof 2 is weaker on snow than its Finnish origins suggest. It produced the least traction of any tyre in the test and the longest snow stopping distance, which is a genuine surprise. It was also joint-last on the dry handling track and only mid-field for dry braking, and its rolling resistance is below average for the group. StrengthsThe Continental AllSeasonContact 2 is the refinement choice. It was the quietest tyre in the cabin, the only one the testers rated in the top bracket for interior noise, and it finished second for ride comfort over joints and broken asphalt. Rolling resistance is among the best of the group as well, so it is cheap to run. ConsiderationsOn a 300hp front-wheel-drive car the AllSeasonContact 2 struggled. It was rated last on the wet handling track, near the bottom in the dry, and it recorded one of the longest dry stopping distances. Straight-line aquaplaning resistance is weak too. On snow the testers found the rear axle unsettled and traction lacking, leaving it in the lower half of both snow tests. StrengthsThe Kumho Solus 4S HA32+ is the cheapest tyre in this test by a wide margin and it was rated third on the wet handling track, ahead of every premium tyre except the Goodyear and the Pirelli. That is the standout result of its test and it makes the price look reasonable. ConsiderationsThe braking and aquaplaning results undo it. The Solus 4S HA32+ recorded the longest dry stopping distance of the nine, floated earliest of all in standing water and produced the least lateral grip in the curved aquaplaning test by a wide margin. It was joint-last for snow handling and near the bottom for snow traction, and it has both the softest compound and the shallowest tread in the group. Weighting vs real impact
What decides this ranking
The weighting is how much each category counts. The real impact is how much of the difference between the tyres it creates: a discipline in which every tyre performed about the same barely changes the order, however much it counts.
No weighting is recorded for this test, so the weighting here starts from Tyre Reviews’ season defaults, not from the test’s own scoring.
- Dry Weighting 27% Real impact 29%
- Wet Weighting 37% Real impact 24%
- Snow Weighting 26% Real impact 32%
- Comfort Weighting 5% Real impact 7%
- Rolling Resistance Weighting 5% Real impact 7%
- Subj. Dry Handling counts for 4.6% of the score but creates 8% of the difference between the tyres, because their results in it were far apart.
- Wet Braking counts for 21.1% of the score but creates only 10% of the difference, because most tyres performed about the same in it.

How it is worked out: each discipline’s weighting is multiplied by the spread of its results (the gap across the middle half of the tyres, as a percentage of the best result), then shared out so that all the disciplines add up to 100%. It estimates what separates the tyres; it is not a second set of weights, and it follows the weights you set.
How your ranking is calculated
Each discipline is scored against the best non-reference tyre in the full test field: best ÷ result × 100 when lower is better, or result ÷ best × 100 when higher is better. Discipline scores are rounded to two decimal places, then combined using your weights.
Within-category weights divide that category’s share of the overall score. A 50% wet category and 40% wet-braking share give wet braking 20% of the total. A weight is a scoring priority, not a measure of its actual effect on the ranking: the performance gaps matter too. What decides this ranking ↑
Published joint positions are preserved separately. Calculated positions tie only when their underlying scores match; two displayed scores can look equal after rounding.
A zero weight excludes that category or discipline. At least one active discipline is required, and the disciplines in every active category must have a positive total.
