The BEST All Season Tyres For 2026/27 P2 of 10

The Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport finishes second. It had the best wet braking and rolling resistance, strong dry braking and the highest score in subjective dry handling. It was direct, stable and the most summer-like tyre at useful road speeds, while still placing near the front in snow braking and traction. It did not convert that feel into class-leading handling times, and once it broke away on loose snow the slide could build abruptly and take longer to recover. It was also the loudest tyre measured. This is the CrossClimate for drivers who prioritise steering and dry-road control but still need genuine all-season ability.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 9 tests. Updated September 29, 2026.

Across nine independent tests, the Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport shows a clear pattern: it is an unusually sporty, efficient all-season that repeatedly scores near the top overall (average 2.6th; including a Test Winner in 2025 and a Highly Recommended in 2026). Its strongest recurring themes are very low rolling resistance (1st/4 in 2025 Tyre Reviews; 1st/10 in 2026 Tyre Reviews; 1st/9 in 2026 Die Reifentester) and strong braking credentials, particularly in the wet (e.g. 1st/11 in wet braking in the 2026 Tyre Reviews test; 1st/5 wet braking in 2026 Auto Bild mini test). Testers also consistently describe it as direct and rewarding to drive, with standout subjective steering/handling impressions even when lap times are not class-leading.

The main exceptions are in standing-water safety margins and refinement/value. Aquaplaning is repeatedly only mid-pack or worse, including last for straight aquaplaning in the 2025 Tyre Reviews group test (4th/4, +7.1% from best), and it can be noisy/firm (10th/10 measured noise in 2026 Tyre Reviews; 9th/9 subjective noise in 2026 Die Reifentester). Wet handling pace is also variable: it can run near the front in small groups (2nd/4, +0.8% in 2025 Tyre Reviews) but fell to the back on laptime in a larger comparative (9th/11, +2.9% in 2026 Tyre Reviews), matching testers' notes that it feels stable and direct yet doesn't always convert that into the very quickest wet lap times.

Die Reifentester 225/40 R18 gut / ausser Wertung (Good / Out of Classification)

The Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport is a performance all season tyre rather than a touring tyre with snow capability, and it behaves like one. Die Reifentester ran it outside the classification, but on points it belongs in the leading group and we have ranked it accordingly. Choose it for the braking and traction and accept the noise that comes with them.

Michelin Range Test - CrossClimate 3, 3 Sport, Primacy 5, Pilot Sport 5 and Cup 2

Tyre Reviews 225/40 R18 Tested by Tyre Reviews

The Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport is the sporty all season in this range and it occupies a genuinely useful gap. It gives back some of the driving feel normally lost when moving from a summer tyre to an all season, without giving up much of the snow ability that justifies buying an all season in the first place. It will not replace a performance summer tyre for an enthusiast driver who pushes hard, but for someone who enjoys a quick car, does not want to change tyres twice a year, and wants year round capability, it does a very convincing job.

2026 AutoView All-Season Tyre Test

AutoView 255/45R19

The Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport is AutoView's overall winner with 97.5 points. It led dry braking, cornering and subjective handling, finished second in wet braking, and tied for the lowest noise reading. Its weak point is price; otherwise it is the pick of the group for drivers who want all-season capability without giving up dry-road performance.

2026 Autobild Mini All Season Test

Auto Bild 225/40 R18 Vorbildlich (Exemplary)

The Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport is the strongest tyre on wet and dry braking, posting the shortest stopping distances from 100 km/h on both surfaces. It also has the lowest rolling resistance and the lowest noise levels of the five tyres. On snow it brakes the shortest, but its handling and traction are mid-pack and it has the slowest lap time on the wet circle. Aquaplaning performance is average, sitting fourth on straight-line floating speed. The overall picture is of a tyre that prioritises braking, efficiency and refinement rather than outright cornering pace.

Auto Bild 225/40 R18 vorbildlich (Exemplary)

The Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport represents Michelin's ambitious approach to creating a performance-oriented all-season tyre. This brand-new all-weather tyre offers outstanding driving dynamics in the most diverse weather conditions and shows particular strength in winter use. It delivers exceptional performance for drivers who prioritize sporty handling without compromising safety in challenging conditions. However, this performance comes at a premium, as it has the highest cost per kilometer driven among all tested candidates.

Michelin CrossClimate 3 & 3 Sport vs Pilot Sport 5 vs Primacy 5

Auto Motor Und Sport 225/40 R18

The Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport delivered a surprising level of performance in dry conditions for an all-season tyre. Its dry handling lap was only marginally slower than the summer Primacy, with subjective feedback noting its handling was precise and dynamic, feeling much like a summer tyre. However, the performance compromise became evident in the wet. Its wet handling lap was nearly seven seconds slower than the Pilot Sport 5, and its wet braking distance increased by a notable four meters, confirming that while it is highly capable in the dry, a significant performance gap to summer tyres remains in wet conditions.

Michelin CrossClimate 3 and 3 Sport VS Rivals

Tyre Reviews 225/40 R18 Tested by Tyre Reviews Winner

The Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport (Test Winner) takes the overall win on the back of its dry handling, where it is the quickest of the four around the lap and the highest rated for steering feel and fun. It is also the most efficient tyre on test for rolling resistance and the highest rated for subjective wet handling, with second-place objective finishes in both wet braking and wet handling. The catches are aquaplaning, where it is last in test for straight resistance, and dry braking, where it is third. A sharp, efficient all-season for drivers in milder, drier regions who value handling and economy over standing-water margins.
