My vehicle is front-wheel drive. The Hankook tires were first fitted to the rear wheels for 10,000 kilometers, then rotated to the front for another 10,000-plus kilometers and paired with a different set of tires. While the Hankooks were on the rear axle, the front wheels ran on Wanli SU306 tires that had already covered 10,000 kilometers. When I noticed fading braking performance from the Wanli tires, I moved the Hankooks up to the front.
With the Hankooks mounted on the front, during highway cruising and commuting on urban expressways, the steering delivered a silky, buttery feel. It was so comfortable that it made me prone to drowsiness. In terms of noise, the Hankook tires produce mainly mid-to-high frequency sounds. My SUV has decent sound insulation, so this never bothered me. There is virtually no low-frequency road noise, and I was spared the low-frequency resonance typical of many SUVs. As an all-season comfort tire, I consider it highly competent.
That said, I enjoy spirited driving, which is why I eventually switched to higher-performance summer tires. One additional observation: subjectively, the Hankook tires offered stronger braking and handling in wet conditions than on dry pavement.
Perhaps in two years, when I turn fifty and no longer have the urge to drive aggressively, I will switch back to them for calm, relaxed motoring. For now, I still have the energy, so I will continue to savour the supremely refined handling delivered by the Dunlop Sport Maxx RS.
