2026 Tire Rack All Terrain Tyre Snow Test P9 of 30

The Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T, a 3PMSF rugged all-terrain, shared ninth place in the snow ranking, the best placing of any rugged design, and its measured snow grip was among the best in the whole comparison. Its ice performance is the caveat. It was rated in Tire Rack's second winter session, whose tyres sit lower on the drivers' scale than their measured results would suggest.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 3 tests. Updated October 27, 2026.

Across three independent all-terrain comparisons, the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT comes through as a consistently grippy, well-rounded rugged A/T with standout snow ability, but with clear caveats on ice and (on road) wet braking. It placed 2nd/5 (Highly recommended) in the 2025 winter A/T test thanks to class-leading snow braking and strong overall snow/ice pace, and it was 9th/30 in Tire Rack's 2026 snow/ice mega-test while still being called “the best rugged all-terrain on snow by some way”, backed up by 2nd/30 snow traction (+4.1% from best) and 4th/30 snow braking (+5.1%). In Tire Rack's 2025 all-terrain road test it was 3rd/9 overall, with testers praising a “well-balanced” character and “very respectable wet handling characteristics” plus “decent on-road manners”.

The exceptions are meaningful. Ice performance splits by test: it was near the back in the 2026 Tire Rack compilation (29th/30 ice braking, +41.3%; 26th/30 ice traction, +22.3%) and described as “one of the weakest tyres on ice”, but in the smaller 2025 winter A/T group it was 2nd/5 on both ice tests (though still +13% on ice braking). On wet and dry braking in Tire Rack's 2025 road test it posted poor placings (wet braking 8th/9, +17.9%; dry braking 9th/9, +7.8%), matching the write-up that the main requested improvement was “slightly stronger wet braking performance”. Steering feel also draws criticism despite high grip, with “heavy, slow steering with little feedback” and “wasn't the easiest to drive around... but its grip was excellent.”
