Mickey-Thompson Baja Boss AT vs Toyo Open Country AT III

Pitting two popular all-terrain, all-season 4x4 choices head-to-head, the Mickey-Thompson Baja Boss AT and Toyo Open Country AT III target the same buyer but take different routes to performance. Across two 2025 tests in 265/70 R17, the Baja Boss AT consistently finished higher (2nd of 6 in a winter-focused test and 3rd of 9 at Tire Rack), while the Toyo landed just behind (3rd/6 and 7th/9).
In winter metrics the Mickey-Thompson leans on strong objective grip-shorter snow and ice braking and quicker snow handling-whereas the Toyo trades some braking for traction and predictability, feeling easier and more rounded to drive. On-road, Toyo posts better instrumented wet and dry stopping and lap times, but the Baja Boss counters with superior subjective wet feel, comfort, and markedly lower noise.

Fantastic all terrain tire. Very aggressive looks and tread pattern but still very well mannered on the road. The road handling is much better than you would expect. I would say that these tires are far superior in almost every category to the BF Goodrich K02's that were on my truck previously. For off road capability, these tires are absolute monsters! I will definitely be purchasing these again when I need tires.

Best Review for the Toyo Open Country AT III
Given 86% 285/75 R17 on a combination of roads for 10,000 spirited miles
A definite step in the right direction from the older AT2 in basically every way. I've driven multiple ram rebels that came with them stock, and I can say that the AT3 on my outdoorsman makes it feel more confident and capable than those trucks ever felt. Living in Atlantic Canada and being mid-late January, I have gotten a pretty good chance to experience how these work in the winter. Snow traction is above average for the all terrain class, although ice traction is still pretty average for the class. It's worth noting as well that these tires are very quiet compared to some of their main... Continue reading this review using the link below

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
