The Nokian Outpost nAT earns a Highly Recommended award. I found it very well rounded, with the best straight aquaplaning result, excellent subjective noise, strong comfort and very good snow performance. Its snow handling, snow braking and subjective snow control were all close to the front, and it also felt good on dirt even if the dirt lap time itself sat near the rear of a very tight group. The main limitation was on road grip: dry braking, wet braking and wet handling were meaningfully behind the best tyres. It suits drivers who value winter ability, refinement and aquaplaning resistance more than outright wet and dry stopping performance.

Well, based on my score weighting, which can be adjusted on results tab above, the Nokian Outpost nAT is on average, the best all terrain tyre for the winter. While it's only standout was ice braking, it was well rounded and consistent across all the tests, without any huge flaws which led to a solid first place.

The Nokian Outpost nAT was way closer to the all weather than the all season tyre, which is very impressive. It's worth reminding you that we're testing on very hard packed snow at around -17c / 0f! Sure, the all terrain tyre felt a little more like a blunt instrument, there was less feedback around the limit of grip and even coming out of the garage you could tell that it's a more solid tyre, but considering you could do a weekend of winter offroading in the sunshine then drive back home through a where it's snowing and still be better off than everyone on their all season tyres - it's a very impressive blend.
