Conclusion

Across the three shared tests, the Bridgestone finished higher twice: fourth against seventh in Tire Rack's 2024 on-road test, and joint third against joint seventh in its 2026 snow test. The BFGoodrich finished first against second in Tyre Reviews' 2025 comparison. That result reflects its broader balance in that test, rather than a measured grip advantage on tarmac or in winter conditions.

The Bridgestone's clearest lead is in lower-grip conditions. In Tire Rack's 2024 test it stopped about 9% shorter in the wet, completed the wet handling course about 6% quicker and was about 7% quicker on the snow course. In Tire Rack's 2026 snow test it again had the stronger winter results, stopping about 6% shorter on snow and about 24% shorter on ice, with a much shorter snow traction distance. Comfort and noise scores also favoured it in both the 2024 Tire Rack and 2025 Tyre Reviews tests. Its softer steering is the trade-off: Tire Rack preferred the BFGoodrich's road response in 2024, and Tyre Reviews scored the BFGoodrich higher for subjective dry handling in 2025.

The BFGoodrich makes more sense when dirt handling, steering response and robust construction matter more than maximum measured grip. Tyre Reviews scored it 20% higher for subjective dirt handling in 2025 and noted its three-ply sidewall, while also finding it surprisingly quiet and comfortable. Its grip deficit should not be overlooked, particularly on wet roads and ice. The BFGoodrich was tested in LT construction in the Tire Rack tests, so those gaps should be read with that specification in mind. For predominantly paved driving, especially where wet roads and winter conditions feature, the Bridgestone is the better-supported choice. For a driver placing greater emphasis on off-road toughness and responsive steering, the BFGoodrich has the stronger case.

Wins count every measurement the shared tests recorded for both tyres; a tick marks the tyre ahead on that line. Subjective driver scores count as wins but are never averaged, because each test uses its own scale.

Head to head in 3 tests, 2024 to 2026

Each row is one published test in which both tyres ran on the same car, in the same size, on the same day. The line is the whole field, winner on the left.

In each test the better of the two figures counts as 100% and the other as its share of it, so a 36 m stop against 34.2 m is 95%; each spoke averages the shared tests that recorded it.

Every measurement, side by side

Averages of the figures both tyres posted in the same tests. The gap is the average of each test's own gap, so figures from different cars and years are never mixed. Open a discipline for its measurements, and a measurement for every test's figure.

Braking distances and lap times are better when lower; speeds, wear and grip figures when higher. A test's figures are its own: sizes, cars, surfaces and temperatures differ from one to the next, which is why the averages here are only ever of tests the two tyres shared. "Scored" rows are subjective driver ratings: each test uses its own scale, so only the wins are counted.

Scores beyond the shared tests

Owners generally rate the BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO3 well (average 77.8%), with most praising its off-road traction and its more civilised on-road comfort and noise levels than expected for an all-terrain. Wet performance is a bit mixed but leans positive overall, with several noting an improvement versus the KO2, though a meaningful minority still want more confidence in wet grip/braking. The main recurring drawback is balance/vibration issues (around one in four owners), and around one in four also point out that ice grip is not a strong suit, even if snow traction is often praised.

  • Strong off-road traction on dirt/gravel and trails
  • Comfortable ride for an all-terrain
  • Low road noise, often reported as quieter than expected
  • Good snow traction
  • Balancing problems leading to vibration or wobble
  • Limited ice grip (not a winter tyre)
  • Slower, less sharp steering response

How much you love or hate these tires is highly dependent on the amount of time you spend on vs. off road. On dirt or mud, at least on a Ranger Raptor, they come alive inspiring tremendous confidence on loose surfaces at speed. But that confidence evaporates the moment you return to tarmac. Wet braking is particularly bad and frankly, when new, downright dangerous. After 2-3K miles they become a bit grippier in the wet, but never do they inspire confidence. In short, if your spending a lot of time hooning it on logging roads, you'll likely be satisfied, but otherwise Id look elsewhere.

Changed to these tires from KO2s in load range E for my 3/4 ton pickup. The Dueler Ascent 3PMSF rated tires perform good in snow, wet and dry. Their kryptonite is ice. Last winter I drove 330 miles with half of that in road conditions that were icy, patchwork of ice, rumble strips of ice on road. In the straights if you kept your speed down and 4wd you did okay. Tire wear is acceptable. I use them year around and tow a 7000# travel trailer 1.5 to 2 months out of the year. 99% highway driving and 1% off-road (that ain't for me).

On the icy slight corners I had to slow way down, < 25 mph was my limit and the tires (high pucker factor). If I had to drive those type of conditions regulary with ice, then I would pop for a dedicated winter tire. No icy road conditions to drive on? then these are great tires for you.

Reading the results

Written from the test results and owner reviews above. It is analysis, not a measurement: where it and the tables disagree, the tables are right.

Three independent tests put the BFGoodrich All Terrain TA KO3 and Bridgestone Dueler AT Ascent side by side: Tire Rack's 2024 on-road test, Tyre Reviews' 2025 three-tyre comparison and Tire Rack's 2026 snow test. The Bridgestone finished higher in both Tire Rack tests, while the BFGoodrich took first place in the Tyre Reviews comparison.

The results point to different priorities. The Bridgestone had substantially better measured wet, snow and ice grip, and scored higher for comfort and noise in both tests that assessed them. The BFGoodrich earned better steering and road-handling scores in Tire Rack's 2024 test, and a higher dirt-handling score in Tyre Reviews' 2025 comparison. It also has a three-ply sidewall suited to more demanding off-road use. The Tire Rack tests included the BFGoodrich in LT construction, an important qualification when comparing these results.

Where this data comes from

Finishing positions and measurements are transcribed from each published test. A test only counts here when both tyres ran in it, so every figure was recorded on the same car, size and day as the one it is compared to.

About the TR Score

The Tyre Reviews Score rates each tyre out of 10 from every independent test result and vetted owner review we hold, so two tyres can be compared even before a test has run them together.

Who does the testing

Every test published as a Tyre Reviews test is run by Jonathan Benson, who has been testing tyres independently since 2007.
