Conclusion

In Auto Bild's 2026 all-season test, the Vredestein Quatrac Pro 2 shared second place and the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 shared fifth. The Vredestein stopped about 3% shorter in the wet and 9% shorter on snow, had better snow traction and slalom results, and was quieter. Its straight-line aquaplaning result was also better in this size. The Continental remained competitive across the handling tests and matched the Vredestein's top comfort score. It also had a projected tread life about 11% longer and lost less rubber in the abrasion test. Auto Bild's 30-set braking ranking again placed the Vredestein higher, but used the same dry and wet braking figures as the full test.

Auto Bild Allrad's 2026 SUV all-season test gives a more even picture: both tyres shared second place. The Vredestein again stopped shorter in the wet, although the gap was only about 2%, and it was substantially quieter. It also stopped a little shorter on snow. The Continental had about 5% more snow traction and a stronger curved aquaplaning result. Its rolling resistance was lower in this test, the opposite of the full Auto Bild test. Dry handling differences in both sizes were under 1%, and wet handling was effectively level. The Vredestein's large snow advantage in the smaller size did not carry across the SUV test: the Continental was marginally faster in snow handling there.

Choose the Vredestein if wet and snow braking and low exterior noise matter most, particularly on the evidence from Auto Bild's 225/45 R17 test. Choose the Continental if longer projected tread life is a priority and you want the balanced performance it showed in the SUV test. Its wear advantage was measured in only one shared test, while the two tyres' aquaplaning and rolling-resistance results changed order between sizes, so neither is a reliable deciding factor across these tests.

The bullet points are analysis of the shared tests and of owner reviews; the measured wins in each discipline are in the tables below. Where the two disagree, the figures are right.

Wins count every measurement the shared tests recorded for both tyres; a tick marks the tyre ahead on that line. Subjective driver scores count as wins but are never averaged, because each test uses its own scale.

Point at or tap any spoke for both tyres' figures.

In each test the better of the two figures counts as 100% and the other as its share of it, so a 36 m stop against 34.2 m is 95%; each spoke averages the shared tests that recorded it. The scale stops at 96%: a point further in sits on the hub's edge, hollow. 2 measurements recorded in only one shared test are left off; every measurement is in the table further down.

Braking distances and lap times are better when lower; speeds, wear and grip figures when higher. A test's figures are its own: sizes, cars, surfaces and temperatures differ from one to the next, which is why the averages here are only ever of tests the two tyres shared. "Scored" rows are subjective driver ratings: each test uses its own scale, so only the wins are counted.

Owners rate the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 highly overall (81% average), most often praising its smooth, comfortable ride and low noise levels, alongside very strong wet grip that inspires confidence. Dry grip is also widely viewed as secure and predictable, and around one in five owners report it coping well in snow for an all-season. The main recurring drawback is steering feel: around one in four owners describe softer, less immediate response, and tread life feedback is mixed, with a noticeable minority reporting faster-than-expected wear.

  • Noticeably smoother, more comfortable ride
  • Low cabin noise and a refined drive
  • Excellent wet grip and confidence in the rain
  • Strong dry grip and traction under acceleration
  • Steering feels soft or delayed, with a dead spot for some drivers
  • Tread life reports are inconsistent, with some seeing faster wear
  • Handling can feel less sharp than expected in the dry

Summarised by AI from 61 vetted reviews; the reviews themselves are on the tyre page.

I chose XL-rated tires because I tend to drive a bit faster, and they provide better stability with less sidewall flex. I use them only during the winter, and they've been excellent. They are no noisier than winter tires, and in my experience they perform better in about 90% of winter conditions. The only exception is deep snow, where proper winter tires still have an advantage, although these tires handle it quite well too.

A set of two to replace two severely unevenly worn tyres on the front axle. They were the first generation Quatrac Pro with 85,000 km. The Pro 2 is a huge difference compared to (fresh) Pros of the old generation. They are much quieter, all the vibrations and weird cornering noises are gone. The design seems completely new, I have high expectations of it and will post an update in a few thousand km.

Reading the results

Written from the test results and owner reviews above. It is analysis, not a measurement: where it and the tables disagree, the tables are right.

Three independent tests put the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 and Vredestein Quatrac Pro 2 side by side: Auto Bild's 2026 all-season test, its 2026 30-set all-season braking test, and Auto Bild Allrad's 2026 SUV all-season test. The Vredestein placed higher in both Auto Bild rankings, while the two shared second place in the SUV test. The braking test used the same size and braking figures as the full Auto Bild test, so those results do not establish a separate braking trend.

The Vredestein's clearest repeated advantages are shorter wet braking, stronger snow braking and lower pass-by noise. Its snow lead was much larger in Auto Bild's 225/45 R17 test than in the 225/55 R18 SUV test, where the Continental matched it overall and did better in snow traction. The Continental's clearest advantage is projected tread life in the test that measured wear. Neither tyre has a consistent aquaplaning or rolling-resistance lead across the two full tests.

Where this data comes from

Finishing positions and measurements are transcribed from each published test. A test only counts here when both tyres ran in it, so every figure was recorded on the same car, size and day as the one it is compared to.

About the TR Score

The Tyre Reviews Score rates each tyre out of 10 from every independent test result and vetted owner review we hold, so two tyres can be compared even before a test has run them together.

Who does the testing

Every test published as a Tyre Reviews test is run by Jonathan Benson, who has been testing tyres independently since 2007.
