Viking Fourtech Plus vs Vredestein Quatrac

This head-to-head pitches the value-focused Viking Fourtech Plus against the class-leading Vredestein Quatrac-two all-season touring tyres aimed at year-round convenience but with very different priorities. Across four shared professional tests in 2024-2025, the Quatrac swept all overall victories, while the Viking carved out niche strengths that may appeal to budget-minded drivers.

The data shows the Quatrac consistently stopping shorter and handling more securely in the wet and on snow, while the Viking counters with lower fuel consumption, competitive aquaplaning resistance-especially in curves-and a sharp dry-handling showing in one test. The question becomes whether you value top-tier safety and longevity (Quatrac) or a lower purchase/operating cost profile with decent all-weather competence (Viking).

While it might look like the Vredestein Quatrac is better than the Viking Fourtech Plus purely based on the higher number of test wins, tyres are very complicated objects which means where one tyre is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tyres compare across multiple tyre test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Excellent curved aquaplaning resistance and good straight-line aquaplaning stability
  • Low rolling resistance and best-in-test fuel use in 2024 (≈6% advantage)
  • Occasional dry-handling competence (edged Quatrac once)
  • Attractive price point with acceptable all-weather performance
  • Consistently shorter braking on dry and wet (often 5-12% gains)
  • Balanced, confidence-inspiring handling in wet and snow
  • Lower noise/better comfort with direct steering feel
  • High mileage and value proposition (≈+33% wear life; lower cost per 1,000 km)

Best Review for the Vredestein Quatrac
Given 77% 205/55 R16 on a combination of roads for 7 spirited miles
They grip surprisingly well for an all season tire in the dry and snow. I have these mounted on a 8th generation Honda civic sedan with the r18 engine and these tires have me absolutely glued to the ground. I replaced my old Goodyear eagle "all season" tire which had the snow performance of a summer tire in the snow and didn't even preform well in wet or dry. But back to the vredestein, I once was screwing around (dry, 65°f) taking a highway exchang ramp a bit too fast, I hit one rather sharp bend at probably 55+mph and didn't break traction for a second, no tire squeal or anything. Conclusion

Vredestein's Quatrac is the clear all-rounder: four test wins, materially shorter dry and wet braking (often by 5-12%), stronger wet and snow handling, lower noise, superior comfort, and a substantial mileage advantage (circa +33% wear life in AutoBild). While rolling resistance is a touch higher, its overall value still trends better thanks to longevity and safety margins.

Viking's Fourtech Plus performs credibly for its price, with standout curved aquaplaning resistance (two category wins), occasional dry-handling strength, lower rolling resistance and fuel use, and acceptable wet/snow capability. Its main weaknesses are longer dry stopping distances and less precise dry-road behavior. For everyday, price-sensitive driving with frequent rain and moderate winter use, it's serviceable-but drivers prioritizing braking security, wet confidence, and long life should choose the Quatrac.
Key Differences
  • Overall results: Quatrac 4/4 test wins vs. Viking 0/4
  • Dry braking: Quatrac stops 6-8% shorter in multiple sizes
  • Wet performance: Quatrac leads in wet braking/handling; Viking only narrowly matches once
  • Snow capability: Quatrac generally stronger in braking/handling; Viking occasionally edges traction/slalom
  • Aquaplaning: Viking better in curved aquaplaning; straight-line roughly even
  • Efficiency and wear: Viking uses less fuel/has lower RR; Quatrac counters with much longer tread life and better overall value

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
