Bridgestone WeatherPeak vs Michelin CrossClimate 2 AW

This head-to-head pits two benchmark all-weather touring tyres against each other: Bridgestone's WeatherPeak and Michelin's CrossClimate 2 AW. Both target year-round versatility for passenger cars, but they take very different routes to get there. Across two 2025 tests in 225/45 R18 and 225/65 R17, Michelin consistently finished ahead overall (2/2 test wins), while Bridgestone carved out a niche with standout winter grip, low noise, and value.

Expect a clear split in personality: the WeatherPeak is the snow and serenity specialist with a friendlier price tag and long treadwear warranty, whereas the CrossClimate 2 AW is the class leader for dry, wet, and ice performance with sharper responses-but at a higher price and firmer ride.

While it might look like the Michelin CrossClimate 2 AW is better than the Bridgestone WeatherPeak purely based on the higher number of test wins, tyres are very complicated objects which means where one tyre is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tyres compare across multiple tyre test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Outstanding snow capability (quicker snow handling and strong braking/traction)
  • Very low noise and high comfort for long highway drives
  • Attractive value and long 70,000-mile treadwear warranty
  • Good curved aquaplaning resistance and low rolling resistance
  • Best-in-class wet performance (wins all wet categories across tests)
  • Significantly shorter dry braking and stronger dry handling
  • Excellent ice braking and traction with confident all-round grip
  • Lowest rolling resistance on test and two overall test wins

Best Review for the Bridgestone WeatherPeak
Given 80% /60 R18 on a combination of roads for 100 spirited miles
Bought on Costco recommendation when they didn't have Michelin Latitude Tour HPs. I've put approximately 70 miles with 50/20mi mix of highway to secondary, curvy roads. The tire is as quiet as the Michelin and seems to grip the road better in the curves in hot dry conditions. Initial impression is good.

Best Review for the Michelin CrossClimate 2 AW
Given 83% 235/55 R19 on mostly town for 1,000 average miles
A lot of the score categories are difficult to estimate for my car, my driving style, and perhaps most notably, the traffic in my region (Washington state, Seattle area) which is usually very dense. It's too early to rate wear, and I don't think it would be fair to rate them on handling because it's an SUV that I don't push terribly hard in cornering and such. Compared to the outgoing stock all-season Continental Sport LXs, these tires are absolutely a step up. The main reason I got these is because of all the research I've done, including watching nearly every relevant video Jonathan has... Continue reading this review using the link below

Conclusion

The data shows a decisive advantage for the CrossClimate 2 AW in everyday safety: it wins both tests and sweeps the key safety metrics-dry braking/handling, wet braking/handling, aquaplaning straight-line, and ice traction/braking. Typical gaps are meaningful rather than marginal, especially in dry braking (c. 13-16% shorter) and wet braking (c. 5-8% shorter), which can translate to a full car length or more in real traffic.

The WeatherPeak counters with best-in-class snow performance in one test (notably faster snow handling and shorter snow stops) and consistently lower cabin noise and better value. It also posted strong curved aquaplaning in one test and offers a rare 70,000-mile treadwear warranty. For buyers prioritizing winter traction, quietness, and budget, Bridgestone is compelling. For drivers seeking the most complete year-round grip-particularly in the wet and on ice-the Michelin remains the safer, more rounded choice.
Key Differences
  • Dry braking: Michelin stops ~13-16% shorter across both tests
  • Wet braking: Michelin shorter by ~5-8%, plus superior wet handling/steering feel
  • Snow bias: Bridgestone often quicker in snow handling and competitive in snow braking
  • Ice performance: Michelin clearly stronger in braking and traction
  • Comfort/noise: Bridgestone quieter and more compliant; Michelin firmer and noisier on smooth surfaces
  • Value: Bridgestone cheaper with a 70,000-mile warranty; Michelin is pricier but wins overall performance

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
