The evidence behind the verdict

For the launch of the new Bridgestone Turanza AllSeason 6, Bridgestone had the independent test body TÜV SÜD Automotive GmbH conduct a comprehensive test of the new all season tyre, and compare it to the leaders in the all season category, the Continental AllSeasonContact, Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3, and Michelin CrossClimate 2.

While this isn't a traditional magazine test, it is interesting data, and as many of you have questions about the performance of the new Turanza AllSeason 6, we believe it's worth including on the site.

Test setup & methodology

The test setting, the conditions recorded and how the results contribute to the score.

Recorded test conditions

Recorded test conditions

Snow Braking
40 → 5 km/h
Snow Traction
10 → 35 km/h

There are some missing tests you would usually see in a full tyre test, such as dry and wet handling, but from the data we have, the new Bridgestone performs very well in the key safety tests of wet braking, dry braking and snow braking. We've applied a "normal" balanced all season score weighting to the overall results and the new Bridgestone performs best overall.

As always you can adjust the score weighting of the results here to see which tyre is best for your own driving.

The difference between best and worst was 7.4% (0.49 m/s).

All the tyres in the Straight Aqua test finished less than 3% apart.

37.8 m Best
38.6 m +0.80 m

17.5 m +0.40 m 20 km/h
18 m +0.90 m 29 km/h

The difference between best and worst was 5.3% (0.9 m). From 130 km/h, the Continental AllSeasonContact would still be travelling at 29 km/h when the Michelin CrossClimate 2 had stopped.

Residual speed is calculated from the measured braking distances, assuming constant deceleration; it is not a separate measurement.

Is the "snow circle" unit in "seconds" or "meters per second squared"?
If it's in "meters per second squared" shouldn't the graphic be upside down, meaning the Michelin in first and the Goodyear last?

      You make an interesting point!

Something has gone weird in the database, I'll check it out. Thank you
