Continental WinterContact SI
The Continental WinterContact SI is a winter touring tyre with favourable ice-braking, snow-traction and refinement assessments in its single test. Wet and dry braking were less convincing, although the testers described this as a wider winter-tyre limitation.
In the 2020 Consumer Reports North America winter test, this tyre finished fourth of seventeen overall. High marks for ice braking and snow traction were supported by Very Good ratings for ride comfort, low noise and aquaplaning resistance. That combination makes the test assessment more encouraging for winter grip and everyday refinement, without establishing a discipline win or superiority across other comparisons.
The reservations were wet and dry braking, both described as underwhelming. The testers also applied that criticism to winter tyres more generally, and no stopping distances or individual placings establish the size of any gap to rivals. The description therefore rests on one independent test with qualitative assessments. It offers a favourable impression for drivers prioritising winter traction and comfort, but does not establish consistently short stopping distances on wet or dry roads.
