Wins count every measurement the shared tests recorded for both tyres; a tick marks the tyre ahead on that line. Subjective driver scores count as wins but are never averaged, because each test uses its own scale.
Head to head in 7 tests, 2024 to 2026
Each row is one published test in which both tyres ran on the same car, in the same size, on the same day. The line is the whole field, winner on the left.

In each test the better of the two figures counts as 100% and the other as its share of it, so a 36 m stop against 34.2 m is 95%; each spoke averages the shared tests that recorded it. The scale stops at 96%: a point further in sits on the hub's edge, hollow. 5 measurements recorded in only one shared test are left off; every measurement is in the table further down.

Braking distances and lap times are better when lower; speeds, wear and grip figures when higher. A test's figures are its own: sizes, cars, surfaces and temperatures differ from one to the next, which is why the averages here are only ever of tests the two tyres shared. "Scored" rows are subjective driver ratings: each test uses its own scale, so only the wins are counted.

All 9 Blizzak 6 reviewsI might be one of the first people to buy Bridgestone winter tires and I've never regretted it. I used them for 2 years, and now I'm thinking of switching to all-season tires, so I'll be looking for other options. After 40,000 km, the insides of the rear tires wore out; I think it's related to the alignment and balance, so I'll be replacing them.

All 3 Speed Grip 5 reviewsSehr guter Winterreifen im mittleren Preissegment. Fahre 100 km täglich durchs Mittelgebirge (Stadt, BAB, Bundesstraßen) und hatte nun alle Bedingungen: Schnee, Eis, Regen, Trockene Fahrbahn. Toller Grip auf Schnee und Eis bedeckten Straßen. Habe mich stehts sicher gefühlt.
215/55 R18 99V XL. Made in France. Neuprofiltiefe gemessene 8,7 mm.

Reading the results
Written from the test results and owner reviews above. It is analysis, not a measurement: where it and the tables disagree, the tables are right.
This head-to-head pitches Bridgestone's premium-touring Blizzak 6 against Semperit's value-driven Speed-Grip 5, both in winter guise for passenger cars. Across five shared tests spanning Autobild, ADAC and large-scale braking comparisons in 16-18 inch fitments, the Blizzak 6 consistently lands near the top, while the Speed-Grip 5 targets affordability and efficiency with a more mixed dynamic showing.
Early patterns are clear: the Bridgestone brings sporty precision, class-leading wet stopping in several tests, robust snow/ice capability, lower noise, and standout longevity. The Semperit counters with lower rolling resistance, sharper value, and isolated strengths in curved aquaplaning and select dry/wet metrics. The question becomes whether you prioritize absolute winter safety and wear, or efficiency and price.
Conclusion
Synthesizing results, the Bridgestone Blizzak 6 is the more rounded and consistently safer performer: top-3 overall in major 2025 tests (3/22 Autobild, 3/31 ADAC) and multiple category wins in wet braking, snow/ice performance, handling precision, noise, and predicted mileage (+20% wear advantage in both Autobild 2025 and ADAC 2025). Its only notable dynamic blemish is lateral aquaplaning, where it trails the Semperit, but its broader safety envelope remains stronger.
The Semperit Speed-Grip 5 offers credible capability with good wet results in some runs, competitive dry braking at times, very good curved aquaplaning, lower rolling resistance, and a substantially better price/value index-particularly in 205/55 R16-making it appealing for budget-conscious drivers in milder climates. For drivers who face frequent snow/ice or want the most predictable, precise winter behavior plus long life, choose the Blizzak 6. For urban or temperate users prioritizing cost and efficiency who mainly drive on cleared, wet-cold roads, the Speed-Grip 5 is a sensible, economical alternative.

Where this data comes from
Finishing positions and measurements are transcribed from each published test. A test only counts here when both tyres ran in it, so every figure was recorded on the same car, size and day as the one it is compared to.
About the TR Score
The Tyre Reviews Score rates each tyre out of 10 from every independent test result and vetted owner review we hold, so two tyres can be compared even before a test has run them together.
Who does the testing
Every test published as a Tyre Reviews test is run by Jonathan Benson, who has been testing tyres independently since 2007.
