Data updated

Which should you buy?

Choose the Michelin CrossClimate 2 if you want the most complete all-season for mixed weather-especially frequent rain, slush or snow-and you care about aquaplaning security, longevity and efficiency. Choose the Falken Euroall Season AS220 Pro if your winters are mild, you prioritize a sportier dry-handling feel, and you're comfortable accepting weaker aquaplaning reserves and less consistent snow/wet limit behaviour in exchange for a typically lower upfront buy-in.

Where the Euroall Season AS220 Pro is stronger

  • Sportier, higher-limit dry handling in multiple tests (e.g., +1.9% in 2024 sportscar; +2.5% in 2024 motorhome).
  • Often competitive wet performance on braking/handling in certain test conditions (wins wet braking in Auto Bild 2023 and motorhome 2024).
  • Good basic snow traction/braking for an all-season, suitable for lighter winter duty (noted as qualifying for “lowland winter”).
Everything on the Euroall Season AS220 Pro

Where the CrossClimate 2 is stronger

  • Best-in-class winter capability across tests: consistently top results in snow braking/traction/handling/slalom (e.g., +13.6% snow slalom in 2024 sportscar).
  • Stronger aquaplaning resistance in both straight and curved tests (e.g., +9.8% straight and +9.3% curved aquaplaning in 2024 sportscar).
  • Much better efficiency metrics: lower rolling resistance repeatedly (around 10-15% better in shared tests) and lower fuel consumption in Auto Bild (5.48 vs 5.64 l/100 km).

Point at or tap any spoke for both tyres' figures.

In each test the better of the two figures counts as 100% and the other as its share of it, so a 36 m stop against 34.2 m is 95%; each spoke averages the shared tests that recorded it. 5 measurements recorded in only one shared test are left off; every measurement is in the table further down.

Every measurement, side by side

Averages of the figures both tyres posted in the same tests. The gap is the average of each test's own gap, so figures from different cars and years are never mixed. Open a discipline for its measurements, and a measurement for every test's figure.

Braking distances and lap times are better when lower; speeds, wear and grip figures when higher. A test's figures are its own: sizes, cars, surfaces and temperatures differ from one to the next, which is why the averages here are only ever of tests the two tyres shared. "Scored" rows are subjective driver ratings: each test uses its own scale, so only the wins are counted.

Car handels very well on this tyres. It's C5 Aircross.
They are quiet, comfortable and predictable. Grip and braking is very good on dry and wet. Tried them on snow in steep climbs, full throttle in second speed and no wheel spin or traction control activation so excellent grip on snow.
Can't say on ice and can't comment wear because I've got them for two months and 1500 km.
Overall they are little more expensive than Kleber quadraxler or Kumho all season tyres but I think it's worth it because of comfort, handling and noise they offer.

Michelin CrossClimate 2

  • 80%from 173 reviews

  • 2,411,545 milesdriven by reviewers

Owners generally rate the Michelin CrossClimate 2 highly, most often praising its dependable all-weather grip with standout snow traction and strong dry and wet grip for an all-season tyre. Comfort is commonly reported as very good and a sizeable minority also find it quiet, though road noise is a recurring talking point with roughly one in eight owners complaining it can hum or rumble. The main consistent drawback is efficiency: around one in seven owners report noticeably worse fuel economy/EV range (rolling resistance). A smaller but meaningful group also criticise wet handling confidence, particularly when pushed, even though straight-line wet grip and aquaplaning resistance tend to be viewed positively.

  • Excellent snow traction and winter security
  • Strong dry grip and traction
  • Confident wet grip in everyday driving
  • Good ride comfort over longer distances
  • Noticeable hit to fuel economy/EV range (higher rolling resistance)
  • Wet handling can feel nervous or lack confidence when cornering/braking
  • Can be louder than expected on certain surfaces or at speed

After 2 hot summers the tires are dangerous on wet and cold,
That was actually very much appreciated since i drive them on a GR Yaris mostly on the weekends in the night on snowfall but normal use would be very very dangerous.

Reading the results

Written from the test results and owner reviews above. It is analysis, not a measurement: where it and the tables disagree, the tables are right.

This is a classic all-season showdown between two tyres with very different priorities: the Falken Euroall Season AS220 Pro aims to feel sporty and responsive (UHP all-season), while the Michelin CrossClimate 2 is designed as a premium, do-it-all touring tyre with a strong winter bias.

Across four shared professional tests (spanning sporty passenger-car fitments and a camper van test), the results show a consistent pattern: the Michelin dominates the categories that matter most for year-round safety and total cost of ownership (snow performance, aquaplaning resistance, rolling resistance and wear), while the Falken's main counterpunch is a slightly more dynamic feel in dry handling-and in several tests, competitive wet braking/handling numbers on a stopwatch.

If your all-season choice is about “one tyre for everything, including real winter days,” the CrossClimate 2 is trying to be the benchmark. If you're prioritizing steering response and a sportier dry-road character at (typically) a lower upfront price, the Falken is positioned as the value-performance alternative-though the data suggests some meaningful compromises in winter stability and standing-water security.

Conclusion

On aggregate results, Michelin CrossClimate 2 is the clear overall winner: it finished 1st/18 (Auto Bild 2023), 2nd/13 (Sportscars 2024), 2nd/8 (Motorhome 2024) and 2nd/35 (shootout), and it wins all four shared tests head-to-head. The biggest real-world advantages show up where margins matter: aquaplaning (e.g., 78.4 vs 71.4 km/h straight aquaplaning in the 2024 sportscar test), snow capability (repeated wins in snow braking/traction/handling, including 57.5 vs 53.0 km/h snow handling in the same test), and efficiency/wear (Auto Bild wear: ~57,046 km for Michelin vs ~34,319 km for Falken; rolling resistance repeatedly lower for Michelin).

The Falken Euroall Season AS220 Pro is not a non-starter-it repeatedly shows that it can be lively and confidence-inspiring on dry roads, winning dry handling in two of the three tests where it was measured head-to-head (e.g., 91.8 vs 90.1 km/h in the 2024 sportscar test; 79.5 vs 77.6 km/h in the 2024 motorhome test). It also posts competitive wet braking and wet handling results in some test conditions (including wins in Auto Bild 2023 wet braking/handling/circle). However, professional notes repeatedly flag a narrower limit range and understeer/instability on wet and snowy surfaces plus “moderate” aquaplaning reserves-exactly the kind of trait that can turn a near-tie on paper into a bigger confidence gap in real weather.

Practical takeaway: if you want the most complete, low-drama all-season-especially if snow, slush, icy mornings, or heavy rain are part of your reality-the CrossClimate 2 justifies its premium with measurable safety and running-cost benefits. The Falken makes sense when your winters are mild/lowland, you value a sportier dry feel, and you're willing to trade some wet/snow security and longevity to save upfront.

Where this data comes from

Finishing positions and measurements are transcribed from each published test. A test only counts here when both tyres ran in it, so every figure was recorded on the same car, size and day as the one it is compared to.

About the TR Score

The Tyre Reviews Score rates each tyre out of 10 from every independent test result and vetted owner review we hold, so two tyres can be compared even before a test has run them together.
