Continental PremiumContact 7 vs Toyo Proxes Comfort

This head-to-head pitches two premium-touring summer tyres with very different priorities: Continental's PremiumContact 7, a class-leading all-rounder focused on grip and safety, versus Toyo's Proxes Comfort, a value-driven, quiet and efficient option. Across six shared tests from 2023-2025 and sizes ranging 205/55 R16 to 225/55 R17 and 225/40 R18, we see consistent patterns in wet grip, aquaplaning safety, mileage, noise, and running costs.

Continental repeatedly sets the benchmark in wet performance and overall ranking (six test wins to none), while Toyo counters with lower noise, sharper dry stops in a couple of instances, and attractive cost metrics thanks to pricing and low rolling resistance in some tests. The result is a clear split between outright safety and dynamic capability versus comfort, efficiency, and value.

Real World Driver Reviews

Continental PremiumContact 7 Driver Reviews

Drivers of the Continental PremiumContact 7 overwhelmingly praise its outstanding wet and dry grip, strong braking, and confidence-inspiring handling, often noting clear improvements over the PC6. Many also report solid comfort and better aquaplaning resistance, though experiences vary by car. The most frequent drawbacks are higher road noise on coarse asphalt and, for a subset of users, faster tread wear; a few enthusiasts note soft sidewalls that reduce steering precision. Overall sentiment is strongly positive given the high number of top-scoring reviews.

Fantastic tyres. Previous tyres were Michelin ps4. These 7s are possibly better in every department. Highly recommend them. Very impressed.

Best Review for the Toyo Proxes Comfort
Given 70% 195/55 R16 on mostly motorways for 500 easy going miles
I chose the Toyo Proxes Comfort because they had great price and Wet rating A. I have two on the rear and on the front I have two Michelin Energy Saver +. I can't really tell the difference from before when I had four of the above mentioned Michelin. They seem too have decent dry grip and feel good on wet too. I drive quite carefully and rarely push to the limit, although I must say I've done a couple of roundabouts and turns in a speedy manner without losing grip on the rear. So far so good, will see on the long run. For now, it's buy again

Conclusion

Continental PremiumContact 7 dominates where it matters most for safety-wet braking (sweeping all shared tests), wet handling, and aquaplaning stability-while also delivering strong dry control, precise steering, and notably better wear in the comparative wear tests. Its consistent top-tier finishes (including multiple test wins and podiums) make it the performance reference for everyday drivers who prioritize confident stopping distances and security in changeable weather.

Toyo Proxes Comfort earns its name with quieter pass-by noise, competitive dry braking in select sizes, and a compelling value proposition thanks to lower purchase price and, at times, reduced rolling resistance. However, longer wet braking and slightly softer lateral support limit its ultimate safety margin versus the Continental. If your priorities are comfort and cost efficiency on predominantly dry, urban or motorway use, Toyo is appealing; for an all-conditions, safety-first choice with excellent longevity, Continental is the safer bet.
Key Differences
  • Wet braking: Continental consistently shorter (often 6-13% advantage)
  • Aquaplaning safety: Continental generally ahead; Toyo only edges curved aquaplaning once
  • Handling character: Continental more precise and dynamic; Toyo slightly delayed steering and understeer in dry
  • Noise: Toyo quieter in most tests
  • Wear: Continental shows significantly higher mileage (20-26% in shared wear data)
  • Value/price: Toyo cheaper and often better price-per-1000 km; Continental offsets with longer life

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
