Which should you buy?

Choose the Falken ZIEX ZE320 if you value the strongest braking-led safety performance (especially wet braking) and a more engaging, confidence-building touring feel. Choose the Hankook Ventus Prime 4 if you prioritise high mileage and slightly better fuel economy, drive mostly steady-state kilometres, and are willing to be more cautious in the wet-particularly near the limit or in emergency manoeuvres.

  • Stronger braking performance overall across shared tests, including a big ADAC dry-braking advantage (33.9 m vs 36.7 m) and a large wet-braking win in ReifenTester (23.19 m vs 26.59 m)
  • Often more confidence-inspiring handling scores in the touring-oriented test (wins in subjective dry and wet handling), described as agile yet stable and comfortable
  • Good straight-line aquaplaning results in two tests (e.g., 80.4 km/h vs 74.5 km/h in ReifenTester; 75.2 vs 72.9 km/h in ADAC)

Wins count every measurement the shared tests recorded for both tyres; a tick marks the tyre ahead on that line. Subjective driver scores count as wins but are never averaged, because each test uses its own scale.

In each test the better of the two figures counts as 100% and the other as its share of it, so a 36 m stop against 34.2 m is 95%; each spoke averages the shared tests that recorded it. 8 measurements recorded in only one shared test are left off; every measurement is in the table further down.

Every measurement, side by side

Averages of the figures both tyres posted in the same tests. The gap is the average of each test's own gap, so figures from different cars and years are never mixed. Open a discipline for its measurements, and a measurement for every test's figure.

Braking distances and lap times are better when lower; speeds, wear and grip figures when higher. A test's figures are its own: sizes, cars, surfaces and temperatures differ from one to the next, which is why the averages here are only ever of tests the two tyres shared. "Scored" rows are subjective driver ratings: each test uses its own scale, so only the wins are counted.

Falken ZIEX ZE320

  • 87%from 17 reviews

  • 92,020 milesdriven by reviewers

Owners are overwhelmingly happy with the Falken ZIEX ZE320, with consistently strong reports of dry grip and confident handling, backed up by positive wet-weather feedback. Around half of owners who mention it also find road noise low for the class, and a third highlight sharp steering response. The main caveats come from around one in five owners citing higher fuel use and similarly around one in five questioning tread life, while isolated comments mention reduced performance in extreme heat and less progressive behaviour at the limit.

  • Strong dry grip
  • Low road noise for the class
  • Confident wet grip
  • Sharp steering response and good feedback
  • Mediocre rolling resistance (worse fuel economy)
  • Questionable tread life for some owners
  • Can lose performance in very high heat

The tires provide excellent handling and grip in both dry and wet conditions. There is absolutely no tire noise on the highways, although if the asphalt quality is poor, some noise returns. The ride is very comfortable and not too firm. I rotated the tires from front to back at 10,000 km, and I haven't noticed any wear at this point. Overall, these tires offer great value for the price, and I feel very confident in both braking and cornering!

Hankook Ventus Prime 4

  • 82%from 97 reviews
  • 73%would buy again
  • 1,056,322 milesdriven by reviewers

Owners rate the Hankook Ventus Prime 4 highly overall (average 80.7%), most often praising its strong dry grip and confident, predictable dry handling, backed up by a comfortable, generally quiet ride. Wet grip is also widely seen as secure for a touring tyre, with many calling it reassuring in heavy rain, though a minority report some instability or weaker aquaplaning resistance. The main recurring drawback is longevity: wear and performance consistency split opinion, with around one in four owners mentioning tread life and around one in ten saying grip drops off noticeably as the tyre wears, sometimes accompanied by increased noise.

  • Strong dry grip with plenty of traction
  • Excellent dry handling and confidence in corners
  • Comfortable, compliant ride quality
  • Generally low road noise for a touring tyre
  • Tread life can be disappointing for some drivers
  • Grip drops off as the tyre wears
  • Road noise can be noticeable on some surfaces

No complaints on Wet or Dry grip for everyday driving. It was a 2025 tyre with 12k miles had to deal with a full blowout while driving. From a tropical climate with 99% indoor parking.

Reading the results

Written from the test results and owner reviews above. It is analysis, not a measurement: where it and the tables disagree, the tables are right.

Falken's ZIEX ZE320 and Hankook's Ventus Prime 4 sit in the same “premium-touring summer” space, so the expectations are similar: secure braking in the wet, stable motorway manners, and sensible running costs. What makes this head-to-head interesting is that the shared tests don't tell a single, simple story-these two trade places depending on whether the test weighting prioritises safety metrics (braking/aquaplaning/handling) or ownership metrics (wear and efficiency).

Across three professional comparisons, the Falken is repeatedly the sharper “confidence tyre” on short-distance stopping-especially in the wet-while the Hankook more often plays the long game with noticeably better predicted mileage and slightly lower fuel consumption. The result is a classic choice between peak safety performance in key moments versus total-cost-of-ownership strengths over tens of thousands of kilometres.

Conclusion

On objective safety metrics, the Falken ZIEX ZE320 shows the clearer performance edge more often, particularly in braking. In ADAC 2026 it stopped in 33.9 m on dry versus the Hankook's 36.7 m (a meaningful ~2.8 m gap), and it was also better in wet braking overall (34.3 m vs 34.5 m) with a bigger advantage on wet concrete (37.7 m vs 42.1 m). The ReifenTester 2025 touring test reinforces that pattern: Falken's wet braking advantage was large (23.19 m vs 26.59 m) and it also led subjective wet and dry handling. However, the third test swings the other way, where the Hankook beat the Falken in wet braking (34.0 m vs 36.3 m) and wet handling, while the Falken was criticised for inconsistent wet behaviour in cooler conditions-an important caveat for drivers in milder climates.

For ownership and efficiency, Hankook's case is straightforward: in ADAC 2026 it delivered clearly higher predicted wear life (44,700 km vs 37,500 km, about +19%) and slightly lower fuel consumption (5.4 vs 5.6 l/100 km). That makes the Ventus Prime 4 the more rational pick for high-mileage commuting and fleet-style use-provided you accept that multiple reports flag its wet performance as only “fair/sufficient” and less confidence-inspiring at the limit. Practical takeaway: if your priority is maximum braking/active safety feel in everyday rain events, the ZE320 is usually the stronger bet; if you want a calmer cost-per-km story and do lots of steady motorway kilometres, the Prime 4's longevity advantage is hard to ignore.

Where this data comes from

Finishing positions and measurements are transcribed from each published test. A test only counts here when both tyres ran in it, so every figure was recorded on the same car, size and day as the one it is compared to.

About the TR Score

The Tyre Reviews Score rates each tyre out of 10 from every independent test result and vetted owner review we hold, so two tyres can be compared even before a test has run them together.
