Michelin Primacy 5 Owner Reviews

Review this tyre

What owners say summarised from 62 reviews

Owners generally rate the Michelin Primacy 5 highly (82% average), most often praising its notably comfortable, refined ride and strong wet-weather confidence. Around three quarters of reviewers mention noise, and while many find it very quiet, a sizeable minority report intrusive droning on certain road surfaces. Grip and efficiency are commonly highlighted as strengths (especially in the wet and for rolling resistance), but around one in five owners feel it sacrifices dry handling and steering precision compared with sportier alternatives.

Most reviews compare this tire vs others in comfort and these appear to win every time. I have come here to disagree. Noise is OK. Better than the Pirelli's I had before (20k mi but aged) But they feel rough. Unless you have perfectly smooth roads, you will feel feedback and bumps. They are not "hard". They are not a bad tire, but if you focus on comfort, look elsewhere. I drive a heavy luxury rwd luxury sedan and I noticed the difference immediately. Writing this after 7.5k miles having hoped they would behave as I was given the impression they should. I'm looking at other options now.

My size is 225 55 r17 in 97 W (non-XL). Pressure does not change the signature of the feel. They feel the same at 32psi and at 35psi. Maybe they are deemed comfortable when compared to other tires for modern 18/19/20in rims with less sidewall. Maybe that's it and the impressions we read are based on modern rim and tire combinations, so they do not apply to my older set-up.

I bought these Michelin Primacy 5 last summer and after more than 15000 miles I can say they are still great! My son just asked me yesterday are these new tyres or some old ones, since they look not worn at all and he is also looking to get himself some new Michelin tyres for his Peugeot.
So, after almost 25000 kilometres on a heavy SUV (Volvo XC40 D4 AWD) some other tyres will probably wore out, but these are still really great. Super silent, soft, fuel-efficient (the same as my previous Continental EcoContact 2) with great handling and very comfortable, used mostly on highway rides.
Since they are a bit softer than expected, I thought the fuel efficiency will not be that good, but they prove me wrong, although that softness maybe affects the road feedback. Still, they are a great companion to an all-wheel vehicle and I enjoy getting into curves knowing the tyres will follow my commands.
Will I buy them again? Probably, although since they will definitely last a few years more than expected, Michelin will come up with the new model before these wear out :)

MY Volvo XC40 AWD has been driven mostly on highways and this spring I was wondering what to replace my good Continentals with, so I thought I might give this new Michelins a try. Gosh, these tyres are super silent! I've been driving on some silent tyres before but these are great! At first I thought they're not good at handling, but then I realized I'm going 20% faster than usual, because I was relying solely on the noise :)))
These are silent (even on highways) and pretty soft, so driving on highways is super comfortable. I cal also feel my AWD is like on rails while driving on local roads and I've never been able to loose a grip. Going through puddles on highway is like going on normal wet roads, without any resistance. After almost 4k miles I didn't notice they're worn at all and hope will last for 40k miles more. Hope I will be back here in a year or two with some more useful information, without any disappointments.

I bought them because I heard that they are quiet tyres. Dear god what a lie it was - I have read that they are very hard tyres and almost all roads around me are rough asphalt - they are extremely loud. On smooth surface they are ok, pretty quiet, but as I said on rough surface it different story - they resonate terribly. Even though I did 1500km in those I will be swapping them out pretty soon as its unbearable how loud they are.

This review is exclusively for comparative purposes and not a long-term test review. I thought I would improve the driving comfort and acoustics of my new VW T Roc 2026, and after reading the tests and reviews, I chose the Michelin Primacy 5. The result is a total disappointment: Compared to the Continental Eco Contact 7 that came as original equipment, the Michelins are louder, less comfortable, and the steering has become less precise. After a few dozen kilometers, I put the original Continentals back on and everything returned to normal. This is the worst experience I've ever had changing tires.

I drive close to 62k miles/ 100k km a year as I'm using my car for private -hire/rideshare.

Compared to the Falken Azenis Fk520 as well as Kumho Ecsta PS31, these tyres are a leap beyond. They offer comfort, longevity control in one package.

The Falken is slightly sportier in handling the corners and had only about 55 000 km till end tread.

The Kumho were cheaper upfront but rolling resistance deteriorated with comfort and noise levels down reaching mid to end life which I can't stand as I'm driving a hybrid, they lasted 50 000 till end tread.

From new till my current 33000 miles/ 53000 km, tyres had not drop in factors promised.
- noise is minimum
- road bumps are absorbed beautifully
- handling wet road not compromised including cornering.
I've checked my tread depth and I've still got meat to last another 20-30k km/ 12k-18k miles to go.

I will certainly buy them again as cost per km helps me save some money in the long run as well as the other benefits stated above.

Still have to keep above minimum presure on tyre load plate. This avoids buckling on forces applied with larger steering input. The side walls are pretty thin with no rim ptotector edge to speak of. Would be nice to have more direct feeling to cornering at a reasonable speed & long bends in the road. They are a touring tyre, but the trade off is noise to handiling ratio that can be improved on. They have hardly worn at all. Dependable in the wet from moist, to sheets of water over the road, when driving to the conditions. Hardly have to pick out a stone stuck between the treads, so that is a bonus. Great tyre for highway use but they increase pressue a lot on hot days. Start at 37 psi & goes up to 42 psi. Noticable when using steering auto function. The car will start to wander within the lane & self correct. Doesn't happen when under 39 psi. Second best tyre I have used in 40+ years of driving. When you get some miles on your clock, you notice these things. I wont put any one off these tyres, as long as you are aware of its limiting factors. I'll say it again. Bought a premium European tyre, made in china. Go figure.

The worst Michelin tire I have ever used in my life!!! When I bought it new, it would slip very quickly during stop-and-go. The tire description said it could last approximately 100 km, but it didn't change. It doesn't grip the road, always slipping! At first, it was quiet, but after 5-6 km, it started making noise! I took the car to the authorized service thinking there was a problem with the vehicle, and they said the issue was with the tire!!! In short, this tire cannot be a product of the Michelin brand. The brand should recall these tires from the market. At 60 years old, this is the worst Michelin tire of my life!!!

I previously commented after driving it for 1,500 km. I've now driven it for 8,000 km. It didn't meet my expectations. It's the most problematic Michelin I've ever driven! The handling on dry roads is poor! On brand new pavement, it spins like a bald tire when you stop at a red light and start, and the tire barely grips when starting uphill. It skids when braking. I feel uneasy driving on the road. It's a bit better in the wet than in the dry. The best part is that it's quieter than the ones I've used before. I think the factory should check this series! I consider it a product that doesn't suit the brand.

My car is a Honda CR-V 3. The car's construction transmits vibrations on rough asphalt into the cabin. When buying the Primacy 5, I thought it would be quiet and comfortable. On smooth asphalt, it is quiet and pleasant. But on rough asphalt, the noise is unbearable. This tyre is not suitable for this car. All other features of the tyre are very good, and if it weren't for the transmission of vibrations on poor asphalt, it would be a very good tyre. A friend has the same Honda and has Pirelli SF2 tyres. In his car, on the same asphalt, it is very quiet. I am looking for a winter tyre that will be just as quiet as the Pirelli. But finding such information or opinions in tests is impossible. Let someone take the Honda CR-V tyre for testing, and they will understand what I am talking about.

First impressions compared to my old Dunlop Sport BlueResponse set. Less sporty, Bit more noisier, but better in braking both dry/wet. Also better in heavy rain and aquaplaning.

I bought the car with an old set of Fulda Sportcontrol 2, a very good tire (dot from 2018).
The only difference is the side profile, on the Michelin is a lot softer so the sporty drive is affected. But the comfort is 100 times better.
The avrege fuel consumption dropped by 1L.
I had the "luck" to drive them in a heavy storm, there was a lot of water on the road, THIS ARE THE GREATEST TYRES I HAVE EVER DRIVEN ON A WET ROAD.
I honestly got them on sale 400€ for the set, I 100% recommend them.
