Michelin Primacy 5 Owner Reviews

Review this tyre

What owners say summarised from 62 reviews

Owners generally rate the Michelin Primacy 5 highly (82% average), most often praising its notably comfortable, refined ride and strong wet-weather confidence. Around three quarters of reviewers mention noise, and while many find it very quiet, a sizeable minority report intrusive droning on certain road surfaces. Grip and efficiency are commonly highlighted as strengths (especially in the wet and for rolling resistance), but around one in five owners feel it sacrifices dry handling and steering precision compared with sportier alternatives.

Initial Impressions
My car is a Focus. I replaced the tires with Michelin Primacy 5. I'm not mentioning the brand of the tires I removed to avoid disrespecting other brands. My car feels like it had a reverse chain that broke. The car is so much smoother, it glides on the road, it's so quiet and soft, even the steering feels lighter. I'm very happy with it. Anyone thinking about buying tires can buy them without hesitation.

Initial Impressions
The Michelin Primacy 5 is an exceptionally comfortable and quiet daily tire that excels at soaking up bumps while maintaining impressively low noise levels over time. It offers great efficiency through low rolling resistance and proves highly durable, showing only ~1mm of wear at its current mileage. While it is a safe and reliable choice for the commute, the highly isolated road feel—while excellent for cabin refinement—means it lacks the confidence and precision required for fast cornering or dynamic lane changes.

Initial impressions are very good, a bit noisy rolling but absorbing bumps very good. Grip is superb, both wet and dry.

Dry Grip:
Very good to excellent, even when driving spiritedly on twisty roads.

Wet Grip:
Very good straight-line aquaplaning resistance. On twisty roads at average to spirited speeds, they make that “I’m losing grip” noise, but they actually don’t slip at all. Still, the sound makes me feel a bit insecure, so I tend to lower the speed.

Noise:
Compared to the OEM Falken SN832B they replaced, they are one level noisier in town, but it’s a premium, low-pitch noise that you get used to over time. However, they really impressed me with how quiet they are on the highway! I think these tires are primarily made for cruising. I don’t think there is a quieter tire above 120 km/h on the market — the only thing you hear is aerodynamic noise.
Keep in mind my car is a latest-generation full hybrid, so it’s very quiet and even minor tire noise is noticeable.

Comfort:
My previous tires were soft. The Primacy 5 are a bit firmer, BUT the way they absorb imperfections and the overall driving feel at the end of the day is actually more comfortable and pleasant than before. I don’t know how the engineers managed it, but they succeeded — I think they really shine in this segment and might be the most comfortable tire on the market.

Wear:
They’re made to last 50,000+ km, so after just 5,000 km they show almost no wear. That said, be patient and give them 2,000–3,000 km to show their virtues. I keep the manufacturer’s recommended pressures, which seem to work perfectly for the car and for my preference as well: 2.5 bar front, 2.4 bar rear.

These are easily the best summer wheels I've driven in my whole life. Much better than the previous Continental Premium Contact 6 which started to hum loudly at speeds faster than 60 km/h. Can't really understand some of the negative reviews for the same size and vehicle model.
Very easy driving, low noise and good rolling resistance. Stable on wet conditions, and haven't experienced any skidding. Durability have to be accessed later but so far no problems.
I've driven so far 11,000 miles on nordic roads of variable conditions consisting of smaller communal roads, highways, towns etc. Road feedback seems nearly perfect to me.

I changed my tyre from high profile tyre. So I can't really comment on the comfort and noise. Buy believe me, this tyre really sticks well on road. Especially on wet condition. My suv drives like a sedan sports car! Very happy with my purchase.

Mazda 3 4th Gen. The tyres are skinnier than ones replaced with the same marked width. They heat up a lot so tyre pressure builds up. Cornering in the dry on a 90 deg bend onto 2 lanes will buckle the tyre doing over 40km/h. Driven in temperatures between -4 & +36 degrees. They are very good in wet conditions with stable steering. Lovely ride on most roads except course stone chips. They take small pot holes & road expansion joints better than any tyre I have used. A great tyre if you are not into sporty cornering. A relaxing drive is what I found these tyres to provide along with a quieter drive. Tread loss is approx .5mm over 4500 kms. Original depth was 7.5 mm. They should last a while with wheel rotation. I paid for a premium European tyre that is made in China. Go figure.

After 10,000 km, the Michelin Primacy 5 proves to be an excellent all-rounder for daily driving. Road noise is impressively subdued, enhancing cabin comfort even at highway speeds. The tire delivers a smooth, comfortable ride, absorbing road imperfections with ease. Rolling resistance is commendably low as well. Not the most ideal if you are looking for a sporty tire

Replaced original Yokohamas on a Rav4 Plugin Hybrid (Rav4 Prime).
Much more surefooted in torrential rain, felt like driving on a dry road surface.
Very predictable and assured handling with more feel and also a sense of connectedness. I was very surprised at their effectiveness in the rain and their ability to clear standing water. Highly reassuring.

The Rav4 isn't a performance vehicle, but the handling has been significantly improved. Where the old ones felt skittish and struggled for grip out of turns and corners, with a dose of understeer, these just hook up and go.
On initial turn in they are not as sharp as something like a Pilot Sport tyre, but do have the edge in handling over CrossClimate2 (on the other car).

What's also very noticeable is the signifiant reduction in noise - these are very quiet tyres (ideal for an electric vehicle) and they seem to be more adept at soaking up road imperfections and transmitting far less intrusion into the cabin.

Mileage in electric mode appears to be unchanged, so no complaints there.
Overall very impressed with these and would definitely purchase again.

Previously was using primacy 4 for 57k km for 3yrs plus. It was a very durable tyre, good dry/wet grip thus i change to primacy 5 recently.

Compare to 4, this is an upgrade. Quieter, better grip n more comfortable, maybe this is new. And wat i like abt Michelin is, they have very flat n sporty sidewalls.

Now almost 1K km after first installation replacing my Pilot Sports 5. I am sharing my experience in direct comparison to the PS5. Impressed with how tyres maintain grip on exceptionally wet road conditions (am from the tropical world). Going over a puddle of water made me realised that the car does not experience as much drag as my previous PS5. Great water dispersion / evacuation. Aqua planning resisting is good, and that is of paramount importance.
Handling and feel are not as good as PS5, at least to me, a small sacrifice as i am not exactly an aggressive driver. I put emphasis on safety, comfort and durability.
Rolling resistance is obvious, something you can feel, not just a number or a factor given by the manufacturer. It glided smoothly on the road, and as a bonus, tyres are so quiet and feels so supple, my car is now super comfy.
I have been driving over 40 years, and have used numerous tyres made by major brands (i will spare you the details) and i can attest that the Primacy P5 is the best set of tyres i have used todate, PROVIDED, that they last as long as what Michelin claimed.
But until then, I am fully loving those new tyres whole heartedly.
