Data updated

Which should you buy?

Pick the Vredestein Quatrac for the best all-round ownership experience-balanced wet/dry/snow performance, standout comfort and low noise (especially in larger sizes), and clearly better predicted wear. Choose the Nokian Seasonproof 2 if you drive in consistently wet climates and prioritise short wet braking and aquaplaning resistance above all else, while accepting that steering precision, snow traction and (in some fitments) stability can be the trade-offs.

Where the Seasonproof 2 is stronger

  • Stronger braking performance on dry roads in both tests (37.9 m vs 38.6 m; 41.5 m vs 42.0 m)
  • Outstanding wet safety in ADAC: shorter wet braking (32.4 m vs 35.1 m) and best aquaplaning resistance (91.9 vs 86.0 km/h straight; 3.9 vs 3.6 m/s² curved)
  • Efficiency advantage: lower rolling resistance in the 225/40 R18 test (8.29 vs 8.87 kg/t) and slightly lower fuel consumption in ADAC (5.5 vs 5.6 l/100 km)

Wins count every measurement the shared tests recorded for both tyres; a tick marks the tyre ahead on that line. Subjective driver scores count as wins but are never averaged, because each test uses its own scale.

In each test the better of the two figures counts as 100% and the other as its share of it, so a 36 m stop against 34.2 m is 95%; each spoke averages the shared tests that recorded it. The scale stops at 90%: a point further in sits on the hub's edge, hollow. 16 measurements recorded in only one shared test are left off; every measurement is in the table further down.

Averages of the figures both tyres posted in the same tests. The gap is the average of each test's own gap, so figures from different cars and years are never mixed. Open a discipline for its measurements, and a measurement for every test's figure.

Braking distances and lap times are better when lower; speeds, wear and grip figures when higher. A test's figures are its own: sizes, cars, surfaces and temperatures differ from one to the next, which is why the averages here are only ever of tests the two tyres shared. "Scored" rows are subjective driver ratings: each test uses its own scale, so only the wins are counted.

  • 80,950 milesdriven by reviewers

Owners generally rate the Nokian Seasonproof 2 highly, most often praising its strong wet grip and reassuring all-round safety, alongside a quiet, comfortable ride. Snow traction is also frequently highlighted as impressively winter-like for an all-season tyre, with dry-road grip getting positive mentions too. A meaningful minority report mixed feelings about steering precision and stability at higher speeds, and around one in five owners mention fuel economy/rolling resistance not being as good as hoped.

  • Strong wet grip and confidence in rain
  • Low road noise (quiet motorway and around town)
  • Comfortable, compliant ride quality
  • Very capable traction in snow for an all-season tyre
  • Steering feel can be a bit vague or not very direct
  • Mixed stability at higher speeds (some report nervousness)
  • Fuel economy/rolling resistance can be disappointing

After installing the Seasonproof 1 and being happy with it, I decided to put on the Seasonproof 2 and it has improved a lot... good performance in water, they provide safety and are very comfortable... they are not sports tyres, but in water they provide safety... I don't know how they perform in snow... silent just like the Seasonproof 1... happy ☺ so far good wear.

Vredestein Quatrac

  • 345,646 milesdriven by reviewers

Drivers report the Vredestein Quatrac is a strong all-season tyre, most often praised for excellent wet-road grip and confident performance in cold conditions, including light-to-moderate snow and ice. Many reviewers highlight strong longevity (often projecting 60-80k km) along with good comfort and generally low noise, making it a solid value alternative to pricier rivals. A minority note higher cabin noise on certain vehicles and slightly less sharp/softer dry handling (especially in hotter temperatures) compared with more summer-focused tyres.

  • Excellent wet grip and confident wet braking
  • Strong cold-weather performance (snow/ice capable for an all-season)
  • Good longevity/treadwear and even wear reported by many
  • Comfortable ride quality
  • Can be noisier for some vehicles/sizes (noted by a minority)
  • Dry handling/steering feel not as sporty or can feel softer in heat versus summer-oriented tyres

Finally retired these at 55k miles. They were real good over all. Average: price and comfort. Above average: off road, snow and ice grip. Way above average: wet and dry grip. The wear was good too, if my alignment didn't go out I could've gotten about 62k out of these.

These tires went through hell and back. I took my car off road several times with these, they went through several snow storms including a couple blizzards. They never once let me down. I once got mired about 4" deep in muddy sand and was able to get out (fwd civic).

I ended up buying a new set of these. Very satisfied overall, I doubt there's another tire that has such good performance across the board without being costly. My new set was around mid $700s in total including mount, balance and disposal.

Reading the results

Written from the test results and owner reviews above. It is analysis, not a measurement: where it and the tables disagree, the tables are right.

Nokian's Seasonproof 2 and Vredestein's Quatrac sit in the same “premium-touring all-season” space, but the shared test data shows they chase that brief in noticeably different ways. Across two independent 2026 tests (a sporty 225/40 R18 format and an ADAC 185/65 R15 format), the Quatrac is the more consistently well-rounded tyre overall, while the Seasonproof 2 is the more “specialist” pick when the weather turns wet.

In headline results the Vredestein simply places higher in both shared comparisons (4/11 vs 9/11 in the 225/40 R18 test; 4/16 vs 7/16 in ADAC). But the interesting part is why: the Nokian repeatedly posts class-leading wet metrics in the ADAC test (wet braking and aquaplaning), yet its subjective/limit behaviour and winter traction consistency are where it gives points back-especially in the larger, more dynamic R18 fitment.

Conclusion

If you want the safest “set-and-forget” all-season across varied conditions, the Vredestein Quatrac is the more dependable recommendation. It ranked 4th in both shared tests, was the quietest measured tyre in the 225/40 R18 test (69.25 dB vs 71.58 dB), and combined strong wet and snow results with excellent comfort. It also looks stronger on ownership economics in ADAC, with a clear wear advantage (43,600 km vs 37,100 km predicted mileage) and lower abrasion (60 vs 72 mg/km/t), even if it gives up some efficiency in rolling resistance in the R18 test (8.87 vs 8.29 kg/t).

Choose the Nokian Seasonproof 2 when wet security is your top priority and you value efficiency, but go in with eyes open about its dynamic compromises. In ADAC it's the wet standout: wet braking is substantially shorter (32.4 m vs 35.1 m) and it leads aquaplaning resistance (91.9 vs 86.0 km/h straight; 3.9 vs 3.6 m/s² curved). However, the larger-size test flags a more serious concern: despite a fast wet lap, the Seasonproof 2 was criticized for slow steering response and unstable front-to-rear behaviour, and it was last for dry handling while also lagging badly in snow traction (4.46 s vs 4.08 s). The practical takeaway: the Nokian can deliver impressive wet grip numbers, but the Vredestein is the tyre you're more likely to trust when an emergency manoeuvre demands predictable responses across seasons.

Where this data comes from

Finishing positions and measurements are transcribed from each published test. A test only counts here when both tyres ran in it, so every figure was recorded on the same car, size and day as the one it is compared to.
