Each row is one published test in which both tyres ran on the same car, in the same size, on the same day. The line is the whole field, winner on the left.

Braking distances and lap times are better when lower; speeds, wear and grip figures when higher. A test's figures are its own: sizes, cars, surfaces and temperatures differ from one to the next, which is why the averages here are only ever of tests the two tyres shared. "Scored" rows are subjective driver ratings: each test uses its own scale, so only the wins are counted.

BFGoodrich gForce Winter 2
- 89%from 30 reviews
- 100%would buy again
- 215,300 milesdriven by reviewers
Drivers generally rate the BFGoodrich gForce Winter 2 very highly, with repeated praise for confident traction on snow and ice and strong wet-weather performance with good aquaplaning resistance. Many also highlight excellent value for money, stable behavior in harsh winter conditions, and generally good comfort/quietness for a winter tyre. A smaller set of reviews note compromises on dry roads, describing softer handling, reduced steering/on-center response, and occasional higher noise depending on speed and surface.
- Excellent snow traction
- Strong ice grip for a studless winter tyre
- Very good wet grip and aquaplaning resistance
- Great price-to-performance/value
- Dry grip/handling is only average (softer feel, more roll than summer tyres)
- Reduced steering feedback/on-center response compared with other tyres
- Some report increased noise on certain surfaces/speeds (wet roads or above ~90 km/h)

All 30 gForce Winter 2 reviewsI'm using on a Dacia Duster. Before, for winter, on this car I had Michelin Latitude Alpin 1 and Kleber Krisalp HP3 (same as Bf Goodrich). The snow grip was very good for 4 winters (same as Kleber), never let me down. The wet grip was also very good. But what surprised me a lot, was the emergency braking, that was very very good, on wet and dry. The only minus, was that I need to make some corrections on the directions compared with a summer touring tyre (michelin primacy 3 or hankook), but the care never lost control with those tyres, even if I drove too fast for it. In conclusion I will buy again (bf goodrich or kleber, in function of price).

All 3 Speed Grip 5 reviewsSehr guter Winterreifen im mittleren Preissegment. Fahre 100 km täglich durchs Mittelgebirge (Stadt, BAB, Bundesstraßen) und hatte nun alle Bedingungen: Schnee, Eis, Regen, Trockene Fahrbahn. Toller Grip auf Schnee und Eis bedeckten Straßen. Habe mich stehts sicher gefühlt.
215/55 R18 99V XL. Made in France. Neuprofiltiefe gemessene 8,7 mm.

Reading the results
Written from the test results and owner reviews above. It is analysis, not a measurement: where it and the tables disagree, the tables are right.
This is a classic “winter specialist vs winter all-rounder” matchup. The BFGoodrich g-Force Winter 2 (premium-touring winter) repeatedly shows a strong bias toward maximum snow grip, while the Semperit Speed-Grip 5 (high-performance winter) aims to deliver a more road-focused balance for the many winter days that are cold, wet and mostly cleared.
Across 9 shared professional tests (Auto Bild group tests, braking shootouts, and ADAC), the rankings swing depending on how heavily the scoring rewards snow vs. wet/dry road manners, running costs and efficiency. The data suggests meaningful, repeatable differences: BFGoodrich tends to dominate snow disciplines and often shows solid aquaplaning reserves, whereas Semperit more consistently wins on dry handling, rolling resistance, value, and (often) overall position when the test emphasizes everyday winter road use.
Conclusion
If your winter reality includes frequent snow-covered roads, steep hills, or rural driving where clearing is inconsistent, the BFGoodrich g-Force Winter 2 is the more confidence-inspiring choice. It wins snow braking in the majority of shared measurements (6 wins vs 2) and is repeatedly ahead in traction and snow slalom (4-0). The 2025 Auto Bild test is a good illustration of the trade-off: BFGoodrich gains clear snow advantages (e.g., snow traction 2608N vs 2436N; snow braking 27.3m vs 29.0m), plus strong comfort/noise results (7.3 points comfort; 66.3dB), but gives away wet/dry composure.
For drivers who spend most winter miles on wet, cold asphalt and want a more “normal tyre” feel, the Semperit Speed-Grip 5 is the smarter everyday pick. It is a consistent dry-handling winner (4-0), often edges wet braking/handling (e.g., 2025 Auto Bild wet braking 54.5m vs 56.3m), and it repeatedly delivers better ownership economics-strong value scores (4-0), low rolling resistance (commonly ~6-11% better in the listed tests), and very high mileage in key tests (e.g., 48,210km vs 41,330km in Auto Bild 2024). The practical takeaway: BFGoodrich is the “snow-first” safety tool; Semperit is the “live-with-it daily” winter tyre that typically makes more sense for milder/urban winters and high annual mileage.

Where this data comes from
Finishing positions and measurements are transcribed from each published test. A test only counts here when both tyres ran in it, so every figure was recorded on the same car, size and day as the one it is compared to.
About the TR Score
The Tyre Reviews Score rates each tyre out of 10 from every independent test result and vetted owner review we hold, so two tyres can be compared even before a test has run them together.
Who does the testing
Every test published as a Tyre Reviews test is run by Jonathan Benson, who has been testing tyres independently since 2007.
