Dunlop SportMaxx RT 2 Owner Reviews
Review this tyreWhat owners say summarised from 81 reviews
Across reviews, the Dunlop SportMaxx RT 2 is most often described as a quiet, comfortable UHP tyre with strong all-round grip-especially in the wet-and good aquaplaning resistance, giving many drivers high confidence in everyday and motorway use. Wear is frequently reported as good to very good versus several competing premium tyres, and many consider it strong value for money. A notable minority, however, report overly soft or inconsistent sidewalls leading to vague/“wobbly” steering and reduced precision when cornering hard, and some users say grip (particularly in wet conditions) can fall off as the tyre wears.

I drive spirited and very sporty often on backroads through italy and france and germany...
These tires feel absolutely great, alot of steering feedback and no sloppy stuff.
The tires were noticeable lighter than my worn conti cs5's! when i had them off the rim i compared both tires and the Dunlop was about 1.2kg lighter.
This reduces unsprung weight and makes evyething better.
Grip is excellent, even in wet pretty good. I got a 25% limited slip on the rear and can break out the rear to oversteer if i intend to.
Due to this the perceived level of comfort might be a bit lower for some... But i don't mind that since my car is harsh and full of polyurethane anyway.
For this price it's better than alot of other big names i tried.
The bridgestone potenza's i found mediocre, the conti's and goodyear eagle's .
I think this tire is a great combo of everything included price.

These felt very soft compared to the older tires, meaning less feedback from the road. Dry grip in curves is just the same as the old tires or even less so I'm a bit disappointed. Also, if the tyres need to warm to grip well.
However they are rather comfortable and quiet and work well in the rain, but I would buy some other model next time at least for the Roadster.

All the bad stuff is gone except under excessive acceleration when a small amount of torque steer is evident, but not surprising. Haven't tested in the wet yet, as the summer is upon us in driest Essex, but the dry running is as good as the Bridgestones and off the line under hard acceleration the traction control is noticeable by it's absence which is an improvement. White lining and camber following are not noticeable.
I have previously owned the original RT, 175 45 17 on a Citroen c4, and they were very good in the rain and and very quiet at speed, these (all be it pumped to Volvo ECO setting of 40PSI) are not so quiet (tyre fitter set them to 32PSI and they were quieter) and they smelt not so pleasant for the first 750 miles, though this was only when i got out of the car.
Fuel economy is the same which ever pressure you use, i will be off on a 350 mile round trip soon to verify.
