Volkswagen Golf mk6 GTD Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Yokohama Advan A052 given 96% (245-35-18-)
Driving on track for 400 spirited miles
These are the best MSA 1a 1b or 1c Blue book tyre, they are labelled as a 200 treadwear but seem to wear more like a 100 semi slick but have twice the grip of any R888r, AR1, Direzza or Trofeo R in the wet and that's a big deal in the UK! I've used them all on various cars and now these are my Go-To track/race tyre, especially for cars that I drive to and from the track. The main downside is the quick wear in hot conditions, especially if the car does not have enough camber. I had to add about a degree compared to Toyo's so please bear that in mind when switching. Stiffer springs helped too as the grip is closer to a slick! They don't get slower after many heat cycles so you can use them until the cords show through. Then there is the cost but these sort of tyres are getting fitted to expensive cars and at tracks like the Nurburgring, saving £200 on a set of tyres can cost thousands in barrier repairs when a light dusting of rain occurs!! So overall, the best Semi-Slick around, just don't cry when they only manage a handful of trackdays. People will think you or your car are much better than they are! haha

Oke.. i came from 225/45/17 alloys with hankook evo 2 tyres (was very satisfied with them) . When they worned out, i replaced them with new 18"alloys and a pare of bridgestone's. My first impression was.. wow are these tyres made of rocks or what? I lost all comfort, fellt literally every imperfection in the road. BUT.. after i got used to them i found out they give excellent feedback and grip(if not the best of all tyres i've had in the past) in warm condititons. You've got to love it.

So if you prefer comfort, these tyres are not for you.

thanks for reading. bye.

Replaced bridgestone potenza tyres with these because of the good reviews, but i must say i'm quite disappointed. the Bridgestones are far better in handling and road feedback. The side walls of the dunlop's are way too soft in my opinion. Not sporty at all. They collapse under hard cornering, even with 2.8bar pressure. The only thing i like about them is the comfort level on highway. This tyre should not be presented as sport maxx performance tyre. Touring tyre suits better. Thanks you all for reading.

Writing about the Pirelli Dragon Sport given 82% (225-45-17-)
Driving on mostly town for 100 average miles
Pirelli have released a performance tyre in the Asia Pacific market called the Dragon Sport (same name as the Euro motorbike tyre). Feedback on chat forums is very positive. They are extremely cheap for a Pirelli tyre. As this UK website is read across the world, I thought I should give an initial review on them here.

First impressions are very good. They are quiet and give excellent feedback, much better than the original fitment Bridgestone Turanza ER300s. There is some slight 'slap' from road joins, but not like a hardcore track-ready tyre (eg: PS4).

Wide grooves give excellent wet grip and wet braking. USTQ rating of 400 indicates a relatively hard compound, so they aren't for track use and may not be so great in emergency dry braking. But they should last a long time.

It is too soon to give a considered opinion, but at this point they seem to be an excellent choice for anyone upgrading from standard rubber to something better. I will be recommending them to friends who say "I need some tyres but don't know what to buy."

For enthusiasts, I would say "Buy the Adrenalin RE003s, Michellin PS4s or PZeros instead". (All Continental tyres are overpriced out of contention here in Australia, as our coarse chip roads can eat them in less than a year.)

cant comment on wear as only had for 4 weeks however had conties then verderstain and pirellis before and on my 184bhp front wheel drive Golf Covering 30k a year, they where the best tyre by far! Shocking I know but these really are good tyres.

Driving on mostly motorways for 20000 easy going miles
I am fairly steady eddy and never drive to the limit rarely need to break sharply but want a tyre that can be relied on.
I bought these as they had A rating in all categories.
I will never bother with noise rating again as the road surface makes much more difference, fuel economy jury is out.
My biggest gripe is wear totally shocking wore out far to quickly and the grip went down hill rapidly with the wear no grip when I changed them with over 2 mm left and they were feathering badly and the tracking is perfect.
Never again for me.

These tyres are as bad as budget tyres on damp roads. Do not buy.

On my last 2 cars Volvo T4 & Golf GT TDI fitting Avon ZV5 has transformed the cars. Just bought a Golf GTD with Pirellis on and they grip in a straight line but I nearly ended up in the side of a BMW at modest speed on a damp road. Will replace with Avons next time. Excellent tyre

Have done 17,500km/11,000 miles on these fitted to a Golf GTD, rotated at 15,000km/9,300miles still less than half worn. Very quiet and comfortable compared to previous Bridgestone ER-300. Handle very well in dry and good in occasional wet (Brisbane,Australia). Good road feel all the way to 220kph/135mph, giving warning well before limit in dry. Recently did interstate run of 2,100km/1,300miles in 2 days in wet, no dramas. Definitely will look for these again when required.
