Performance Analysis

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 - Official Image

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 delivers a broadly balanced summer performance with frequent top-tier finishes early in its lifecycle and solid efficiency. Across 21 summer tests it averages a competitive 4.5th, including multiple podiums and wins (Sport Auto 2016: 1/8; Test World 2016: 3/13 with best wet braking; Auto Bild SUV 2017: 1/10; several 2nd places). Its recurring strengths are short dry stops, stable wet handling, and class-leading or near-class-leading rolling resistance. However, against newer rivals it trends mid-pack in later tests and shows recurring weaknesses in wet braking relative to the very best, plus average-to-poor subjective comfort/noise. As a reference summer tyre in the 2024 Sport Auto all-season test it dominated dry metrics but was understandably poor on snow and weak in wet braking versus all-season peers.

Patterns show: consistently strong dry braking, competitive wet handling/aquaplaning resistance, and excellent efficiency; offset by intermittent wet braking deficits and middling subjective handling/comfort. Awards and podium density support an above-average overall standing for a previous-generation UHP tyre.

Performance Strengths
  • Dry Performance Strong
    • 1st place dry braking and dry handling in 2024 Sport Auto All Season reference test (35.3 m; 101.2 km/h)
    • Dry braking top results across summer tests: 2nd/9 in 2017 Auto Bild (36.1 m, +0.8% from best); strong placements in multiple 2017/2018 tests
  • Wet Handling & Aquaplaning Moderate
    • 2nd/6 wet handling in 2018 EVO (+0.2% from best) and 1st in subjective wet handling
    • Strong aquaplaning: 2nd/8 straight and curved in 2024 Sport Auto reference (+2.3% and +1.5% from best)
  • Rolling Resistance / Efficiency Strong
    • 1st/9 rolling resistance in 2017 Auto Bild (8.39 kg/t)
    • 2nd/6 rolling resistance in 2018 EVO (+0.5% from best); praised in 2016 GTU for excellent RR
  • Overall Balance / Awards Strong
    • 1st/10 overall in 2017 Auto Bild Summer SUV Test
    • Podiums: 2/14 in 2016 GTU, 1/8 in 2016 Sport Auto, 3/13 in 2016 Test World, 2/9 in 2016 EVO, 2/10 in 2017 Sport Auto UHP/Track
Performance Weaknesses
  • Wet Braking Strong
    • 8th/11 in 2018 AMS (+11.3% from best)
    • 7th/9 in 2017 EVO (+8.4% from best); multiple mid-pack results in 2017-2018 tests
  • Subjective Comfort/Noise Moderate
    • 3rd/3 comfort and noise in 2019 comparison (+20% comfort gap; +2.2 dB)
    • Noise 9th/11 in 2018 AMS (+2%)
  • Dry Handling Consistency vs Rivals Moderate
    • 3rd/3 dry handling in 2019 comparison (+2.4%); 7th/9 dry handling in 2017 EVO (+1.5%)
    • Mid-pack dry handling placements in several 2017-2018 tests despite strong braking
  • Winter/Snow Capability (as summer reference) Minor
    • 2024 Sport Auto All Season: last in snow braking/traction/handling (+71-117% from best) as expected for a summer tyre
    • Not scored overall; context limits applicability but highlights seasonal limitation

Not as strong as the best in the test in the dry, but an excellent all round wet ability combined with the lowest rolling resistance and best levels of comfort win the new Goodyear joint second place.
