Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 Owner Reviews

Review this tyre

What owners say summarised from 143 reviews

The Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 is most consistently praised for dry and wet grip, with steering feedback and resistance to aquaplaning also attracting more praise than criticism. Noise is a recurring drawback, criticised in around one in five reviews. Short tread life is raised in more than a quarter, although plenty of owners report good mileage. The few mid-life and end-of-life accounts are divided on wear, so they do not establish a consistent service-life pattern. Most reviews do not identify a stage of use, and the single returning owner is insufficient to establish how grip or noise changes with age.

These just did not go at all well with the MX-5! Would never buy again.

Tried them on the front, however the car would understear suddenly and unexpectedly - which for a rear wheel drive is a bad sign!

Moved them to the back to see if that helped and things got worse. Oversteer was unmanageable in the wet. I only had them on for 3 weeks on the back and had booked in to get a different pair.

It all ended in disaster for me when a deer jumped out. The tyres held up to a 'moose swerve' and I missed the deer (thank goodness), however once again they let go and I ended up backwards in a ditch (very little damage to the car as I was doing slow - making me wonder how I ended up backwards at that speed!).

I've had good things said about them from other users, but they just didn't suit the MX5 at all...

Have since been using Michellins which have been fantastic.

Used this tyre on my Civic 2.0 FD2A;road handling in dry & wet is great; wear for me was low & lasted 65,000km. Only dislike was the Rough Noise it gives especially after 50% tyre wear........ Will try other tyres like F1 Asymmetric hopefully with lower road noise.....

Just replaced the original front Continentals on my Fabia VRs from new. Whilst the grip and handling has improved over the Continentals the fuel consumption has dropped from 54 to 46 mpg on the computer. Not sure if I swapped the rears (Continentals) with the front (Goodyear) whether this will improve the mpg?

Like a few other reviewers, I had similar experience with a rumbling noise sounding like a bearing. Have since found out at MOT that the noise was due to a mis-shapen tyre....rear offside....so a common problem with these tyres.
Also, pretty poor wear with the centre of front tyres wearing whilst outside less so.
With the continuous centreline, it begs the question as to the legality of the tyre as new, since the law expects grooving across the entire tread.

I tried these years ago and came back to them, what a mistake, driving style needs max grip, these don't deliver, don't know why they are rated so high.
Just ordered Sportrac 3 replacments.
They are very comfy tyre though.

These are a newly fitted tyres, so an aggresive denunciation would be premature, however, I feel I must comment on the rolling resistance of these tyres. Previously on my journey into work I could achieve nearly 60mpg with Continental tyres fitted, but on the same journey and in similar conditions I was hard pushed to see 50 mpg - I estimate this to be a 15 to 20% increase in fuel consumption! I do appreciate that there is a trade-off between grip and rolling resistance and these are early days, but this does seem excessive and potentially very costly. I am also aware that many factors can influence the fuel consumption of a car: tyre pressure, load, driving style etc and things might improve when the tyres have settled down and run-in. I would be very interested to know if anyone has experinced similar problems - perhaps I should check the mirror to see if I'm towing an expensive weight - caravan!

These tyres fell apart after 1/2 a track day. They are probably OK on the road for avearge driving, but I would not use them for fast raod or track days.

Initialy appealing given the grip albeit very jumpy on ridged surfaces. Rear tyre tread started to disappear after 5000 miles with appalling noise like a worn wheel bearing. Understand some imports can be dodgy. Lost all faith and replaced with ContiSport 2 which have been excellent all round. Be careful about source of the Good Years.

When I got my 330d I was dissappointed to find that the P-Zeros that it came with (and that I replaced the first time round) only lasted about 8000 miles. I've used F1 GSD-3s ever since and on average they last about 15000 miles. Although dry grip is good the real selling point is wet grip and aquaplaning resistance which is incredible.

The cold-weather/slush/snow performance is extremely poor however as would be expected. I have a set of Nokian WRs on cheap steel rims which I change over to in the winter - they're brilliant in the Alps or even at home on the odd snowy/slushy day we get here - and you save your summer tyres and wheels in the process.

I really liked these tyres initially, they lived up to their billing as quiet and grippy. They worked well in both wet and dry conditions and looked great.

However, both rear tyres have now deformed, which I have never seen before, and make an awful amount of noise. Disappointing.
