Three A P606 Reviews - Page 3

Given 63% while driving a Nissan Juke (225/45 R18 W) on mostly town for 4,000 miles
A great budget tyre, but they wheelspin alot. Handling is average, braking distance is average, wet handling is ok.

They arent dangerous, theyre fine for town and a few motorway journeys. They are combfortable and not too noisy.

A good legal MOT tyre to get through or a stop gap to better tyres.

Had these put on my old b5 a4 estate. Its only a cheap runaround so didnt want to spend over 200 for 4 new tyres when i bought it. Got 4 of these 3a's for about £130 and have to say im impressed. Its hard to say in all honesty as i havent really ran other tyres on this car for a period of time, but had cooper zeons 4's on my old car before, these dont compare to them performance wise but for a budget theyre very good. They grip well in the dry, when pushing it a little in the wet they soon let go though. Tyre noise doesnt seem excessive and they wear very well. Still have 4mm left on the front and nearly full tread on the back. Will swap them over shortly too. Overall 7/10 and would buy again.

Given 83% while driving a Fiat croma (215/50 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 55,000 average miles
I used these tyres on a Fiat Croma and I replaced the first set after 55.000 miles with 2mm left.
With the second set of Three I had an accident in Scotland and I destroyed the front drive tyre, I was in the middle of nothing without breakdown service in that area. I driven more 23 miles ( 15 miles/h ) until the first garage available and the tyres was still good without any damage to the alloy wheel.
I'll buy again with no problem. Great price. normally bought in 50£ each fitted.

I bought my car with 2 of these already fitted. I had a lot of steering vibration and one was loosing air so I visited my local tyre dealer who found that the inner sidewall had de-laminated on the inside. He replaced the tyre with a brand new one of the same make and model, Three A P606.

Fast forward 3 months and I had similar steering vibration issues. My tyre dealer checked the remaining Three A that was on the car when I bought it and found that this also was suffering with inner sidewall de-lamination. He then checked the recent Three A tyre that he fitted and found that this also was suffering from the same defect. He replaced this tyre FOC.

The car was mainly used for long motorway driving, the tyres were never abused and regularly check for correct pressure. I could expect the odd one being defect, but 3??? From different batches??? I've read others comment on the overly soft sidewalls of this tyre, maybe this is a contributing factor.

This experience has put me off budget tyres completely, especially this brand. Avoid!

I’m impressed so far..

Having scrubbed a new set of 4 in over 500 miles, the grip in wet & dry is getting better all the time - provides predictable behaviour on most surfaces, positive braking feel.

Given 67% while driving a Ford Mondeo mk3 2.0 petrol (205/55 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 500 spirited miles
These tyres were bought for a road trip around Europe, there were chosen based on reviews and price ( £40 each fitted). Fitted to the front only, as good Tyro CF2's on rear. I was expecting the A606 to have a bit less grip than the CF2's so on the limit the car would under-steer.

The first thousand miles was general day to day city driving in the UK. There were no problems with the tyres, didn't notice any issues, they grip, are not noisy, would squeal in the dry if provoked and slide in the wet if provoked. Never had any unexpected lose of grip or handling issues.

Next 4000 miles was a trip around Europe, they performed fine of the motorways / Autobahns, nice ride, fairly quiet, solid Handling even at 115 mph.

Over the Alps with Spirited driving no real issues, squeals on hairpins, but no massive under-steer. On most Alpine twisty roads you have trouble going over 40mph ( unless you have a death wish ) due to the twists/ turns, steepness to the road and lack of performance due to the Altitude.

Around the coast roads in mixed Motorway and country road driving the tyres behaved the same as they did in the City back home. No surprises, no issues. Coped with a heat wave and one very violent storm ( lots of standing water, almost no vision, so drove slowly ).

On the way back to the UK went to the nurburgring, this is were the tyres showed there only weakness. As the car is 11 years old and has 150,000 miles on the clock the laps of the nurburgring were done as a very fast cruise. The day was very hot, the track was very hot. About 8 miles into the lap the ABS suddenly kicked in, I thought I had hit some oil or something. A couple of corners later the ABS kicked in again, from then on the car have chronic under-steer until the end of the lap. Back at the car park I saw the tyre was melting badly. Did another lap driving smoother, Tyre still went off after 8-9 miles. The rear Tyros never give a problem.

Once the P606's had cooled down, a quick drive on normal roads cleaned them up and they were back to normal. ( maybe its not a good idea to try and do a fairly fast lap of the nurburgring on inexpensive tyres ).

Back in the UK after over 5000 miles hard use there is still just under 5mm of tread left.

Summary, A good general purpose tyre. Not the best, but certainly not the worst. If you are a day to day driver looking for a affordable, but reliable tyre I would say ( based on the tyre size and car combination I used ) that you could do a lot worse than the P606.

Given 80% while driving a MG ZS (205/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 500 average miles
I have fitted these tyres to my MG ZS and so far these are the best budget/mid range tyres I have bought for my car and for just under £50 per tyre fitted, you cannot grumble for that kind of price. The grip you get in the dry including the response and handling is excellent compared to my last tyre which was the Falken ZE914 and the grip in the wet is just about the same from the last tyre I had fitted. As for the wear on these tyres, I can't really comment because I've only done 500 miles so far on them but the comfort and road noise again is far better than my last tyre as mentioned above. I will definitely be buying these tyres again in the future for that kind of price and highly recommended.

Given 28% while driving a Mercedes Benz E220Cdi (265/35 R18) on a combination of roads for 5,000 spirited miles
Having owned a lot of premium cars with mixed mid-range to premium tyres I bought the Mercedes and these tyres were fitted brand new by the seller. They are without a doubt the worst tyre I have ever used.

First Dry Grip, 35-40mph on a large roundabout induced screech and loss of grip (no acceleration). Soft sidewall but relatively quiet.
Wet Grip, DANGEROUS 20-25mph entering a roundabout induces understeer and 15-20mph out of a comer under acceleration induces oversteer twitching & fishtail. (only 177bhp with this car so not like its a big powerful motor).

Given 76% while driving a Honda Civic (195/55 R15) on mostly country roads for 3,000 spirited miles
Bought a set of three a p606 too replace my Bridgestone Potenza Re002 Adrenelin.
For the money their brilliant, good dry grip but easily start loosing grip the harder you push on when heat starts taken effect. They have a much softer sidewall to the Bridgestone I grew used too so lacks road feel for myself however they are reasonably predictable meeting the limit. In damp conditions the offer good grip levels and even in really wet conditions disperses the water nearly aswell as rain sport 3s.
Can't comment on road noise as my car has full exhaust so not a factor that effect me.
Wear is pretty good so far 3000miles into a set and just rotated tyres (extremely spirited driving).
Overall for a cheap budget tyre that has decent grip levels look no further, however if you looking for a pure performance tyre I'd recommend premium brands such as Bridgestone.

Given 90% while driving a Hyundai i20 (195/55 R16) on a combination of roads for 500 average miles
Purchased two brand new three a's last week for my 15 plate i20. Two fitted and balanced for 100 quid which is a bargain! No problem fitting with the tpms. Grip is positive and relentless with good feedback in the dry. Not had the pleasure of using in the wet yet but I've been informed they are C rated in the wet...Which is good enough for me! A little noisy on motorway but acceptable nevertheless. Decent from what I can tell so far!
